My experience with bassstringsonline.com part 2!

What would be the smoothest feeling stainless strings out there? I'm leaning towards the Fodera set, but wouldn't mind some input. I'm usually a nickel string player, but I'm not quite satisfied with the tone I'm getting anymore.

Foderas may be the next best choice for smoothness, since they are compression wound. I have no idea about the tone, however.

I'm a big fan of Stainless Steel strings and my favorite right now tonewise are the stainless version of the Dean Markley Helix HD. They have a pretty special mid/low-mid range. they aren't super smooth. When new, there is still a roughness. But notably less than some others.

Rotosound has a stainless pressurewound called "Solo Bass '55". I've never used them, but hear they sound like their Swing Bass 66, without the roughness and less clank on brighter basses. SB66 are my other most favorite SS string, due to their special high mid and full low-mid. So I would be inclined to try the Solo Bass 55.

Those stickers... Darn you Jason for turning my ride into a mobile billboard!! Seriously, though. Do you have the stickers in any other colors? I have yellow and blue so far... hoping to collect them all, eventually. Side note: SUV = blue sticker, Amp stack = yellow sticker. I'm not a fan of stickers on guitars, but since I no longer treat my basses like babies anymore, I wouldn't mind slapping one on at least one of them... or all three.

And next time I order, I'll have to put some on my gig bags... those Fender Stainless Steels are dying fast. So far a co-worker of mine told his bassist about your site after seeing the sticker on my vehicle and talking about it. Hopefully, that's another customer for life.

Oooooh, are stickers still available?

I buy a batch of strings about once every 3 months on average. I have used BSO for about a year. Back in April I threw in one of those Structure instrument cables that were on sale for $10, to keep as a backup. I finally got around to trying it last month, and as luck would have it, it was a dud. I emailed Jason and he sent me a new cord with my string order, no questions asked, no need to hassle with returning the bad one. I am a BSO customer for life. The only problem I have is that its too easy to buy strings now....

Jason took care of me with my last order. I ordered a custom set of DR Nickle Lo-Riders for my 5 string AM STD Jazz bass and for whatever reason the wrong type of E string was in it's package. The package said "DR Nickle Lo-Rider .105" but there was a black E string inside! Don't know if it's one of DR's black coated strings or not, but it sure wasn't a nickle string! I think it was just an honest mistake on DR's part and nothing more. Hey, mistakes are gonna happen! I contacted Jason and he sent me the right string which arrived on Saturday. Cool! Just in time for some weekend practicing! Great service from Jason and staff as always. Thank you from another lifetime customer!

After a lot of trial and error I think I've finally found the strings that work best for this particular bass. Got a 130-105-85-60-40 set. The B and E string have just that little bit of extra stiffness to them that I wanted but couldn't find with all the other strings I tried. And that little bit made all the differance for me. Played on them for a good few hours last night and I really liked what I was feeling and hearing.

Thanks again, Jason!

Gosh, do I love BSO so much. Got my care package yesterday (D'Addario Traditionals for my NXT5, DR Legend flats for my new P-bass, DR Rare's for my crappy practice Dean acoustic BG, and another spare set of Hi-Beam 40-120's for my fivers) and swapped out all the junk stockers. So nice to have the "right" stuff on there.

As an aside, you'd think that if strings were designed for a specific instrument, as in the case of the traditionals for the NS Design EUB's, that I wouldn't have to take a razor to the string and strip silks off in order to get the B string to fit through the hole. Really frustrating - but they sound nice!

Holy crap. Ordered my DR Lo-Rider 5's VERY late on the night of the 23rd...technically the 24th. On a whim I decided to check on the ship status and it said DELIVERED. Went to my mailbox 20 minutes ago and there they were. From Cali to NY. Amazing.

Now, why is it something I ordered with probably half the ship wt. on the same night and paid more for shipping on from another company in Ohio is still not here?

Service. Great customer service. Thanks again, Jason. You and your staff deserve every bit of praise.

My only complaint with BSO is that I've had a 3 or 4 orders delayed because the strings I wanted were out of stock. The website doesn't indicate that so it's a bit misleading l. I had to go get some temporary strings from my local store to tide me over which means I really didn't save money in the end. Still the service and selection is top notch.

I wouldn't call it misleading, but it would be nice if the website indicated what's in stock and what's not. Jason generally gets back to you quickly if you ask beforehand though. But good prices and 2 days from Cali to NY is still awesome.

I think some of that depends on the string company. With brands like DR, GHS, and D'Addario it's not a problem even if he does not have them on hand.

Dean Markley, however, is the opposite of that. There may be others, what did you order?

I've had it happen to me once. BSO sent an email the following day stating the strings were back ordered but would possibly arrive later in the week. I cancelled the order and got them elsewhere (needed them by weeks end), no big deal. Being in retail myself, it's hard to keep track of every little product when you offer hundreds or thousands of items. He's also at the mercy of the supplier, so I get it. It would be a cool feature to have an "in stock" update, but the service and fast shipping more than make up for it, IMO.

I would rather have the service and fast delivery that Jason provides than have an In Stock monitor added to the site. If you are in a rush just email him. You will get a response quite quickly, more quickly in fact than most online retailers. The In Stock monitor is not always a trivial thing to implement if you are carrying lots of inventory. It actually is dependent on what methods you are using to manage your stock and if they currently lend themselves to that type of integration.

Yup. Jason doesn't sleep. I actually get a little worried that something terrible happened to him if it takes more than a day to answer me. If I remember correctly I think he got married recently and was still answering my inane questions.

Live inventory tracking is something I have been debating since I launched the site. I am able to implement it right away, but maintaining it will add a lot of man hours which will ultimately add to the cost. Most brands we refresh in 2-3 days, some of them as quick as 1 day. Not to get into the logistics of things, but we literally get shipments every day from some manufacturers and some others every other day. Because of this our inventory is as fresh as it can be and sets do not sit on the shelf very long. However with some brands this can not be done as they require orders to be placed 4-12 weeks in advance! Those we forecast as best as possible but can not predict all sales.

Try to always answer messages as quickly as possible! The last week we had some troubles with our email servers but finally got them resolved. Yeah I was married for a few months... ha!

It's happened with La Bella, R. Cocco and maybe DR.

Unfortunately DR had a problem with their Flat Wounds so those were delayed for a while. It was unexpected on both of our ends but the issues got resolved and they are now constantly on hand. Not sure if this is the product you experienced a delay with but they are the only DR's to my knowledge that we ever had any kinds of delay with.

La Bella has so many different custom sets that we carry and we have to order them so far in advance sometimes we do run out. Many of the La Bella products we carry are exclusive to us. We do our best to keep stock but we do run out sometimes.

R.Cocco if you were in the states I could have had them shipped directly to you to reduce delays.

Sorry you are unhappy. Message me your info and I can look more into any issues you may have.

Thank you all for the support!
