my girlfriend rudely surpised me

I think what she did is completly unacceptable .If she disrespects you in front of others ,i would have great concerns . That simply would not happen in my world. Most of the comments here seem to be in jest. But if i had an OL that did that it wouldnt happen twice.

If she really wasn't joking, she thinks you're stupid. She won't want to learn about groove or song anchoring from you.

I say pretend to dump her, and see how she reacts. Then make your decision.

P.S.-Make SURE it wasn't endearing banter.

A deliberate negative comment made in public about something I am? We'd be split before she could finish her next sentence- she wouldn't even get a ride home. If she'd said it in jest, the OP would have gotten that message and not started this thread. But a good woman (a woman worth loving) doesn't mock her man's craft anyhow, in any way.

I freely admit that part of it's just me- I don't even know what it's like to be so whipped that I have to ask an internet forum for advice when I can simply cancel the future with one woman and find a replacement within hours.

Same here -she would have been gone before the string stopped vibrating. But i never would have been in that position-i would not have been around her kind in the first place.

Her comment should bother you, because it's wholly offensive. Dump her, you'll only regret it down the line if you let her begin to walk all over you with comments that disgrace your intelligence and hobbies. Relationships require respect, she doesn't have any for you if she makes comments along these lines.

+1

What every man desires is unfailing love and respect. When a woman is disrespectful, it is a violation of what a man most desires - respect...

ok guys, in all seriousness.
her comment did in fact bother me.
i knew she was joking, but it still wasnt very respectful.

but some of the responses here were not what i was expecting.
they were worse than her original comment.

im not going to dump her, or bruise her up, its not worth it.
ill play bass like i always have and show her that im not a "failed guitarist",
or "lacking brain capacity".

i can prove my point by showing her what i can do behind a bass,
not by dumping her or smacking her.

i expected some better posts from you TB.

She took you to the woodshed in public for playing an instrument you love. Friend, ain't no point you can prove that she wants to understand.

You're here explaining to us why you keep this trick in your life. That says to me maybe the two of you are compatible after all.

Ever considered playing guitar? I bet she'd like you more...
