my girlfriend rudely surpised me

I found Makanics video to be completely tastless and not at all cool. I too, love the female species and that vid is just OFF. Would anyone here see the joke if that was your wife, daughter, girlfriend, mother?
To the OP...Your girfriend needs to temper her big mouth with some consideration and thought. If it was a joke, why were you hurt enough to post it? She sounds nasty.

You should have told your girlfriend that if she didn't behave you wouldn't let her sit on your bass amp anymore and then her coochie would be sad. :bawl:

Now in all seriousness, sometimes insults are a sign of not being happy in a relationship.

Maybe she is just ignorant in matters concerning music...its up to you to educate her.
Without bass...there is no foundation...harmonically, rhythmically. Man, to have your own girlfriend nail you with that is just #%$&ed!!!!!

exactly!!!!!! everyone knows that bass comes before guitar in every genre. theres many treble instraments to handle the top, but only bass can handle the bottom!

Its one of those situations where you either just stand there with a big dumb smile and try and laugh of or you try and explain the importance of bass and come across as a bit of a geek. I wouldnt dump her, I would wait, like a tiger stalking its pray and publicly tear her down for:

A) Being Fat (but in a polite way such as, honey your ass is starting to look big, have you put on weight?)
B) Having saggy jugs (Just blurt it out to her friends)
C) For Smelling slightly of badly wiped excrement

Glad I could help

If I had been in your position, I may have dumped her on the spot, given my temper.

At the very least, there would be no lunch down at the Y, no back rubs, no cuddling and certainly no pleasant, loving conversations (if any conversations at all) for weeks. Instead only accusing glares.

Someone who loves you doesn't insult your passion/biggest hobby in public.

While most Talkbass posts on the subject of gender relations are complete idiocy, I must agree here, that someone who is so willfully cruel to you is not someone you want to have a relationship with.

I'm lucky in that I'm with someone who knows how meaningful bass is to me, and also knows that it was a big part of my life for years before she was, and even likes hearing me play.

My wife would never make such remarks; she used to play bass herself.

should have come back saying you play bass for the fingering exercise!! After all, bass players are far better with their fingers than guitarists.
She doesn't play bass anymore, so I guess I'm doing something right :smug:

You know what they say about playing the bass: "Easy to learn, hard to master"

And allot of bass players are failed guitar player, who have seen that there is something better/different and moved on. Guitarist are to dumb to move on ;)

To the OP:
haha!!! She was just messing with you and you stepped right in it! Haha!!!

From your posts, it's obvious that she likes you playing bass and knows what it means to you. She just said it because she knows it would get you going, no harm intended. And guess what, she got this entire thread going! kudos to a girl more clever than all (most) of us!

Be a man and just laugh back at it next time...

Cheers,

Marijn

All heckling is a feeble attempt at public performance from those who can't do it for real.
This doesn't change because she's your girlfriend and as we know , all heckling should be ruthlessly countered until the perpetrator has learned a valuable lesson.
You should have verbally bitchslapped her, then given her a loving smile at the end.
Not standing up for the brotherhood of bass players means you have let us all down and we expect you to do better next time.

It's seems about 99.9% of the time when i've seem a guitar player play a bass, they're not playing bass. It takes time to truely understand and demonstrate what it is to be a "good" bass player. You can play all the right notes and still not play well.

...she went on to explain alot of people who cant learn guitar go to bass...

Citation needed.

I hear about these failed guitarists a lot. Who are they? At what point did they decide guitar was too hard and bought bass gear? Anybody with hands can play guitar, bassists need to actually be musicians. You cannot 'fake' bass really. I only know bassists who went straight to bass. I played guitar, then moved to bass, but not because I was 'failing' guitar, however that may be.

I mean, I saw a few indie bands in the last week. The guitarist typically played a telecaster in that choppy easy-strum style with barre chords. The bassist was using multiple fingers on both hands. Even a simpleton would see the bass was more complex and nuanced to play.

Not that I think what she said was right (even if it was in jest) or nice or anything...

but it's far, far more disturbing to me to see all you guys referring to women as "broads" and "ho's".

Nice guys. Real classy.
