It's done
The Money Shot
Here you can see the recording setup I used for the clip below
How hard is it to tell if you have a 25k EB volume pedal?
Dare you plug in?
So where to begin. I guess the thanks to all the people that helped, so thanks to
Brad @ Tone Factor for helping me get most/all of the pedals even the ones he doesn't stock.
Bongomania for selling me hundreds of jacks and blue canere cable used throughout the board
Rustynuts for sending me some much needed velcro
Toasted for modding the SMM/H
and last of all thanks TBFX for letting me ramble on about this and helping me to pretty much perfect my board.
Next lets talk signal chain so it goes:
Mojo Hand Cream Pie Deluxe - Foxrox Octron 2 - Barge Variable Impedance Buffer and Blender (Loop) - Mojo Hand Huckleberry V2 (End Loop) - Boss LS-2 (Pay attention now)
(Loop A) Xotic X-Blender (Xloop) - Sinister Analog Soul Provider - Catalinbread Hyperpak - Boomstick Bottom Feeder - Subdecay Quasar - Subdecay Echobox - EB Jr 25k Volume Pedal (End Xloop) - Analogman Mini Chorus Clone - Left input of EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai (End Loop A)
(Loop B) Tone Factor Mobius (Mloop) - Catalinbread V8 - Subdecay Fembot Proto - Catalinbread Valcoder - Subdecay Gurgle and Moan Proto (End Mloop) - Subdecay Noise Box - Sudecay Echobox Proto - EB Jr 25k Volume Pedal - Right input of EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai (End Loop B)
So let me break that down because I know your heads are spinning. I'll go through and justify the ordering and such, basically the cream pie is first as it's great as an overdrive and a boost for lower output basses so think of it as a buffer/preamp/overdrive for the whole board and I like the way it affects the Octron 2's tracking, obviously then I run Octave into Fuzz because it sounds best to me, the reason the Huckleberry 2 is in the Barge is I love the full on and blended sound of it, the barge also gives me full control over the Huck so I can make it everything from a light overdrive to a full on gated compressed fuzz by hitting it with different impedances and signal strength, these are outside of the main parallel processing because they sound great with every pedal.
So next into the loops, the board features 3-4 loops
1 - Barge and Huck making the Huck more like and overdrive than fuzz
2 - Groove side (Loop A)
3 - X-Blender on Groove side allowing loop A to have both clean and effected in it
4 - Noise side
So with the volume pedals I can have a constant clean sound using the X-blender and then add saturation to that with the 2 loops that are both being processed at the same time but completely separately. You will hear all this in the clips which I will also go through.
This setup allows me to bypass most of the effects in a click of a button (Boss LS-2) or bypass one side (Xotic X-Blender) or I can reduce the volume pedals and if the X-blender is in blend mode it will give me just a clean sound if it's not it will mute the sound.
If I wanted for some strange recording process where all this isn't enough I can tap the board at various places such as the Octron 2 loop can be used to send a signal just past the octaver but before any of the parallel processing, I can then using the tuner outs on each of the volumes tap the loops before the SMM/H giving a producer control of my whole board at various points that would also make my volume control irrelevant.
So here is something I'm really proud of and I thought of at the last minute, as you've noticed the SMM/H is common to both loops but is pre Boss LS-2 what this allows me is to loop in stereo, well more of a dual mono. So I can loop either side of the board A or B but using the volume controls on the LS-2 I can mute either side, so for example A is giving me a beautiful chord sound and B is giving me harsh noise I can change the looped song by muting just the harsh noise after it's recorded or vice versa, again this is something you'll hear in my pedalboard demo.
So here is the clip (I want to apologise for the playing I really was concentrating on using the effects and showing a wide range that obviously wouldn't normally be used in a single song/take)

What you are hearing here to begin with is me playing clean and adding saturation of effects I think it was filter, phaser and delay you can easily hear the delay on some chords and not on others. You can later hear me bring in an oscilating delay and control the mix of that again all this is done with volume pedals and you'll notice the really smooth switching of effects and sounds here, so I can play the chords with a delay oscilating on one side and the other side having the delay mix controlled giving it a depth that isn't normally available.
I move on then to my synthy sounds blending and switching between the 2 sides to give a wide and varing texture through out that famous riff
Then you hear the noise side on it's own doing blips and things which is then looped and reversed and pitched shifted and all that crazy stuff
Then you can hear what I was talking about with the dual mono looping I can control the loop sides after recording adjusting the volume, which even at it's simplest would allow me to fade loops out live.
Well I hope you all enjoy reading this and look out for the music I'll be creating with this setup over the next few weeks.
Enjoy
