Interesting question. A conservative estimate including pulling the floor paper, sweeping, moving my equipment in and setting up would be about 30-35 hours of work. I have three full days and three partial days free to work in 2018, so I've got just barely enough time to handle it all depending on how my recovery continues.

I'm just about to head out and make an attempt at doing some touch-up painting. My face is still sore, but I've been sitting around recovering so much that I think a little movement will do me good. Here's hoping this simple effort isn't too taxing.

Additionally, I had a brainstorm earlier. I can move in before having the vestibule completely finished. As such, I've revised my schedule and will be picking off this hand to-do list sequentially with the hope of beating the clock.

Probably overkill, but adding child safety measures on all the outlets as a further means of sound isolation. I'm sure the measurable difference here I'll be zero, but it makes me feel better not having open holes in the walls.

Tape wasn't sticking when I tried this previously. Now it's going fine. This will make the process go much more smoothly.

First coat on the ceiling transition is done. The caulk absolutely drinks up paint. After one pass it looks pretty awful. I won't be surprised if this takes me 2-3 coats to get sufficient coverage.

even through a phone camera i noticed a massive difference. with the vestibule closed it will be your sonic sanctuary in there.

So, I used this specific kind of silicone caulk because it's reportedly paintable. I'm calling BS. It looks really bad. Lots of guides online suggest using denatured alcohol as it will make the surface of the silicone slightly porous and the paint will adhere. Looks like I need to go grab a bottle.

Might want to rethink this strategy. My experience was when I childproofed the studio (at my wife's request), pretty soon we had children. Net effect: noise floor significantly increased!

My wife and I made the decision not to have kids, and to that end I had a vasectomy in 2016. If I suddenly have kids you can bet that I'll have MANY questions to ask

More silicone research. Many guides are now calling BS on the denatured alcohol approach and are saying that the only sure way is to cover the silicone with an ALEX type painters caulk. Looks like I get to re-caulk the main room and probably sand down a few areas of silicone in the process. Yay...

In an attempt to steer the thread back in a non-genitalia'centric direction...

I'm back at my office for the first time since my surgery earlier in the week. I'm only working until noon and then I'm headed to Home Depot to pick up the sanding block I forgot yesterday. From there I'm headed home to sand the walls and ceiling adjacent to the trim to remove any excess silicone, or at least as much of it as I can. After that I'll be taping accordingly and then redoing the caulk with an ALEX type so that it's actually paintable. I'll be in the studio working all weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to make steady progress.
