Bottom side of the ceiling trim has been de-caulked. That was a TON of work. I did a test of the upper side and it’s significantly easier since the vaulted ceiling creates a larger gap and the caulk can come out in clean pieces rather than all of the scraping and sanding that the bottom side required. The base trim will be another huge effort. I’ll be back at it tomorrow.
Got an early start. Most of the way through de-caulking the upper side of the ceiling trim. After that it’s on to the base trim. This is ridiculously difficult work. Construction materials, by design, don’t want to be deconstructed.
De-caulking is basically done. There are a few small spots left where I couldn’t sufficiently remove the existing caulk overrun. I’ll have to try some new techniques on those, but for now I’m going to clean up the debris and see where I stand. The good news is that I’m almost back to where I was a few weeks ago! 
That's frustrating, silky. I think I mentioned something about using latex caulk a while back.....
Was there not a way to apply the silicone caulk that wouldn't have required a layer of paint? Or was it going to be too obvious?

You did mention it, although the reasoning SHOULD have been moot since I specifically bought paintable silicone. All of the isolation benefits of silicone with none of the unpaintable drawbacks. It was definitely going to be noticeable. The ceiling with the vaulted geometry was especially noticeable.
Stating this for the record: After seeing how today went and how far behind I am at this point I cannot see a scenario wherein I finish this before the end of 2018. My decree a few months ago when “finish by the end of Fall” fell through was “finish by the end of Winter.” Since today is the winter solstice I still feel pretty good about that deadline.
Ceiling trim is re-caulked. I’m calling it quits for the day and will get back on it tomorrow, when my goal will be to finish cleaning up the walls, finishing the few little spots that still need to be de-caulked that I couldn’t remove earlier today, and lastly re-caulking the base trim and door casing.
Probably going to work on Christmas day, but we’re heading out of town on my wife’s birthday which is the 27th.
Base trim is caulked. I was going to de-caulk and re-caulk the quarter round, but the silicone was flying off and getting stuck in the caulk on the base trim that I just put on. While I’m waiting for that to dry I’ll be painting the caulk I applied yesterday.
Got the ceiling to trim transition painted. Some leakage that I’ll have to clean up with a utility knife once it’s fully dried. Ran out of tape for masking off the trim before starting the wall to trim transition and decided to call it a day.
My boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss (aka the mayor) sent all of us home at 2:00 for the holiday. I capitalized on this by spending some time in the studio. The quarter round is now all de-caulked. I’m going to finish taping off the ceiling trim and painting the trim to wall transition.
I’m pretty sure I’ll do some work tomorrow too. If I can re-caulk the quarter round, tape the base and paint the wall to base trim transition I’ll be very happy.

I was working this morning (6am-12pm). We’re now on our third bottle of champagne and we somehow bought a small chicken instead of a small turkey.

I’m not doing champagne, but I am drinking my favorite holiday cocktail. It’s your basic egg nog, but with a couple of tweaks. One shot Kraken dark rum, one shot Kahlua, fresh ground nutmeg, ice, top with egg nog.
Wall to base trim transition is painted. Just like the ceiling trim there’s a little bit of overrun that will need to be cleaned up. I’ll do that before I paint both sets of trim.
That’s the extent of the work I’m going to get done today. I’m working tomorrow, then traveling through Saturday. I’ll be back at it on Sunday though. My goal that day will be to get all the trim taped and painted. Once that’s done and everything is cleaned up I’ll be ready to start installing my acoustic treatments.
