My one and only SX

I finally got my used SX for $80. The ash body was finished in a very thin satin poly (in fact the grain pores can be felt when I rub my palm on the body). The neck was also satin finished but it is not bounded unlike I see those at Rondo website. It has a very nice slap sound. BUT this is heavy. So far so good.....

Perhaps the previous owner refinished it...every SX I have owned or heard of was finished in a thick gloss of some sort. Although I haven't owned a natural, the 2 sunbursts that I had were beautifully finished with a nice thick gloss coat.

And yes, heavy. Enjoy.

Man, those SX Basses look to good to true for the price. I have to early 50 re-issue Fender P Basses made in Japan.

I am almost afriad to buy an SX in fear that they won't be much different than my Fenders.

I think the OP's bass is probably ash, too.

Yeah, I'm 100% the body is ash. I have stripped-off paints in my basswood and alder body basses before and this SX is definitely ash BUT the grain pattern is not striking. Here are some close-up shots. You can see the grain pores:D And the body was not refinished. The natural satin poly is original finish.
