My preamp journey

The.Black Mountain Signal sounds killer with 24v. I have the low gain channel set just below the OD threshold and the high gain set to give a good amount of dirt. Sounds really nice. Not smooth, like some others, but a little chunky. Not gritty, but almost like a clipping breakup. I still haven't cracked it open to mess with the trim pots.

Also, not sure what is wrong with me, but I found a phenomenal deal on a Pod Go, so ......
Maybe we can get a rate on joint therapy.I made some money selling a couple of trinkets and went right on line and spent more than I made on a Nux Melvin Lee Davis preamp.Like I need this, something is seriously wrong with my wiring

Yeah I actually have a zoom stereo recorder that sounds really good - I had forgotten about it. Maybe some audio only demos in the near future.
If you don't have an audio interface and are in the market for something, I was just made aware yesterday that these exist now...

Universal Audio Volt 2 USB-C Audio Interface

UA quality at an affordable, sub $200 price point! So awesome. They actually make a one input version that's even cheaper!

I do have an interface, it's that my laptop is kind of crappy. I need to upgrade ... I've also been kicking around getting one of those Zoom cameras. Some of this gear is too pretty to not have video!

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this. I nearly pulled the trigger on the February build but then we bought a new house. So I’m pretending to be frugal for a month or two… Not sure it’s going to last though.

Let us know how it compares to the other B15 style preamps.
Will do! I have an Arkham Oracle and I love it, I'm looking for something similar but smaller. Also had the Barber Linden, but I wanted something that could get a little dirty (with separate gain and volume). Looking fwd to the Sushibox, I love his other stuff!

Picked up an Eden Terra Nova in a trade. Definitely gets that Eden sound - that enhance knob is pure magic!

I A/B:ed it against the WTDI and while both get that Eden sound, no question that the Terra is way more flexible. One of the things that I miss about my WT-800 was the semi-parametric mids.

Interesting. I tried one last year. I liked the EQ but found the pedal noisy. Might have been the dodgy power supply that came with it (second hand) might have been the circuitry in my house, but Ive never had a noisier pedal. Passed it on free to my nephew who just scored a Sterling Ray.

I wonder if it was a bad batch. The Terra Nova I have is dead quiet.

The EQ on the Terra Nova is great. I liked how responsive it is. Also, being able to switch on that mid scoop enhance function is a lot of fun.

Glad you like it!

Got the Slampegg and the Pod Go today. Don't have a lot of time to mess with them, but the Slampegg sounds like I thought it would - thick, rich, punchy.
The Pod is pretty much a mini Helix - also what I expected. Sound fantastic!
Have fun bro,l'm paying with my new toy right now.I'm fighting the gas I'm having with the Shiftline Flex.I really want an Olympic but those friggin supply chain issues are screwing with getting stock and parts. The few you can find at the moment are being price gouged big time. They could be had a year or so ago for 300 bucks and I've seen them recently for almost 800.Thats leading me to believe they'll jump in price if things get better.I can get a new Flex for 375 delivered from Shiftline.I'm thinking stock will go fast on these also and the cycle will start on them.See how I justify things? Remind you of anyone? Like you I've put a bunch of stuff on Verb.I should start an account on TB. Keep up the fun.

Very interested to hear more about the Slampegg! Specifically if it stays relatively clean at lower settings and what kind of volume boost is on tap.

I know your question was not directed at me, but if you want clean Slampegg then I would suggest the Barber Linden EQ. I keep both on my board. Barber stays clean through its range. Slampegg definitely does not. They are two different flavors of the same basic concept but they are distinct in what they deliver IMO. Noting you can get clean out of the Slampegg, but if you are after a tool primarily for clean it is not one I would recommend (as you are losing out on a significant chunk of what the Slampegg offers if this is your goal).

Thanks for the info. I had been considering the slam for a warm punchy, well, Ampeg type bass pre and by clean I mean tube like with a little break up when pushed.

Wondering if it could end up as an always on pre for certain gigs (this the clean) but I suppose I could always turn it off when needed.

Also considering it for double duty on occasional bluesy guitar gigs as had been suggested - so kind of looking to make a single purchase that covers a couple situations - thanks!

I couldn't have said it much better than @ahadl2500 - the Slampegg can definitely stay clean and it's always warm, but it gets gritty as well. The Linden can't get dirty by itself.

Don't think the Slampegg will not stay clean - it absolutely will - but it has the capability to get very grindy depending on how you set the level/gain. At low gain levels it's very punchy and articulate.

Also, where in Central PA are you? I grew up outside of Johnstown, lived in Harrisburg and York for a bit ...

The Olympic is the only preamp that (kind of) still remains on my original GAS list. One of these days I'll pick one up ...
