My rented backline adventures

While all this Shame Yellowdog talk is nice and all, I'd just like to put it out there that I'm going to be playing the NY State Fair in Syracuse this coming Tuesday with Bowzer, Freddy Cannon, and Gene Chandler, and I will have a new surprise rental rig for everyone's perusal. Last time we were there was in 2007, and they had an SVT-CL and 810e for me, so I see no reason I wouldn't get another one. We'll see, though.

Probably. Annoying, considering that it is literally the standard.

There have been times when I had an amp on stage but just went direct to the board and used the monitors because it just sounded better on some stages, so , whatever works

If you need a big rig, let me know. I have my FF + Monique about 3 miles away from there. I might even have the night off. :) Also, the Fair has had some management and contract change overs so who knows. If you're in an 'emergency' situation also let me know.

Jimmy, I just mean it will be louder and fuller coming through the mega watt FOH, I have run direct and just used the monitor system too hear myself, much the way Geddy Lee is doing it these days. Wished I thought of the old appliances stacked up where the amps are generally parked, I laughed my ass off when I read about that.

Not only heavy metal guys like Ampeg 8x10's. These guys liked them enough to put one on the cover of one of their early records.

Also, when was the last time that Geddy was on a tour where there was 'provided backline' as opposed to him having racks and racks of his own gear in the back of a truck and his own touring gear/stage crew.

nothing wrong with a good 'ol SVT, used to own a couple, just dont care to lug one around anymore, I dont mind if someone else brings one for me to play through, otherwise its Bag End 15's for me these days, very portable and they sound great too.

Ya, Geddy's funny. But that kind of setup isn't for me. I still like an amp as opposed to monitors.

Didn't I hear this from some old dude somewhere...? Monitors belong in your ears to protect you from your backline, that and a flack jacket. Now that all the heavy iron is down the road, a DI box carried in the guitar case has some attraction. Though Very Little Attraction. :-P
