I get irked when people mispell "etcetera". I even get irked when they spell it all out correctly. Please use "etc.". I don't have time for longwinded embellishment!

In a nutshell, Americans and Canadians spell it aluminum and the rest of the world spell it aluminium.
Aluminum is the original spelling of the metal. My iPad wants to autocorrect aluminium.

It's two words: et cetera. I never allowed our professionals to use "etc." in any of in their technical reports. It creates loopholes that attorneys can slip through.
Let's face it: A lot of people are borderline illiterate. And the sheer ubiquity (look it up! 
) of the Internet, with its emphasis on good writing skills, really makes any language deficiencies painfully apparent.
For me, it makes participation in nearly any online forum into a bittersweet experience - at best. Maybe that's what it's like to have perfect pitch - in a world full of imperfectly-tuned music.

Off-topic, but ... Some cabs are designed to be mixed (or maybe call it combined), much like a big cab with different size drivers, only split up in smaller, separate boxes.
I think *advice/advise* is an English/American thing... HOWEVER, on that note, where do they get * *AL-LOO-MIN-EE-UM?* It is NOT spelled that way.

'Advice' is what you give to someone, 'advise' is a verb.
Re: 'Aluminium', the name is Latin, like many in science (what we call 'lead' was originally 'plumbum' and is not only the origin of its symbol Pb on the periodic table of elements but also the reason people who work with piping are called 'plumber'- the original metal water pipes using metal were made from lead. It's also why so many in ancient times suffered from lead poisoning. That's the original name for it and some people had a hard time using that name, so they changed it to suit their ability to pronounce/spell set type for print (each letter costs money).
Advice is a noun
Advise is a verb
And aluminium has a second i.

I don't mind "whammy bar" at all. But I had a guitarist (a pretty good one too) who not only insisted on calling it a tremolo bar, but on mispronouncing it like tre-MEL-o. Made it sound like a freakin' candy bar.

It was originally pronounced al-oo-min-um, after the scientist who discovered it. The scientific committee decided to call it aluminium as all the other elements in the periodic table ended in 'ium' (well, not quite ALL of them). English adopted aluminium, Americans adopted aluminum (though they're still spelled the same).
