N.B.A. thread

I'm not sure they were Clippers fans. None of them were there when the Memorial Sports Arena had a few hundred in attendance. They showed up at Staples Center with the then new arena and the Clippers ads were come see the visiting NBA players

I haven't seen much of the Clippers since they moved to Staples (God I hate that place, for the name alone) but I was a basketball fan long ago and the Clippers did have celebrity fans in the old days. Some of the same people who went to see the Lakers in fact.

If you're going waaaay back, remember that at the very beginning no one liked the Clippers because they were still seen as the San Diego team.

The Heat are going to go 34 and 48 this year.
Lol, quoted for possible future reference. Sure, it could happen, but you're jumping the gun since the FA signings ain't close to over. Miami looks to be the front runner for Deng. And Bosh is capable of putting up another 20/10 season as the #1 guy.

Barring a medical miracle by Kobe, I bet Miami winds up with a better record than the Lakers.;)

Lol, also quoted for future reference. With McRoberts in the middle, you guys are a real force to be reckoned with. Deng, Wade, Bosh would be not bad but their ceilings have already been reached. You're right, maybe I jumped the gun, how about 38 and 44 instead.

Well, I'm hoping McRoberts won't start, but we'll see. They're supposedly going after Greg Monroe of the Pistons, who's a very solid big man. IF they snag him, a starting five of Monroe/Bosh/Deng/Wade (well, sometimes) and Chalmers/Napier, with McRoberts, Grainger and a cheap shooter or two coming off the bench might win 45. I have no illusions that they're going to the conference finals this coming season, but with the right pieces, the second round is certainly possible. Hopefully they'll save some space for the 2015 FA class.

Sounds reasonable.

I'm most interested to see how good a coach Spolstra is without LBJ.

Dude... have you even seen the rest of the eastern conference? Just with Bosh alone, they'll be +.500. Guaranteed. Last season, a team that was trying to tank (hawks) made it to the friggin playoffs. No offense but I don't think you watched any Miami games pre-Lebron era when Spo was coaching a bunch of scrubs and doing pretty good. Spo will be fine.

Agreed. I mean come on they signed "McBob" Lol

But yeah Miami in the eastern conference will be a over .500 team. In comparison Lakers and linsanity not too sure they can win 41 games.

Losing Pau hurts, but I don't blame him after the way the Lakers management treated him these last 2 years. On another note, Julius Randle should become an excellent pro. So far we are basically looking at Kobe, Jordan Hill, Randle, Nick Young and Lin as a starting 5. Yeah, Heat should have a better record, but they do play in the east.

I read somewhere that the Lakers last offer to Pau was 2 years and 10 million. I know Pau was willing to take a pay cut if he landed in a contender like San Antonio but with the Lakers, who should be a little more thankful for his efforts, and are nowhere near a contender, that offers an insult.

They still have Sacre but as a starting center? And I don't see Kobe or Swaggy P being able to play the 3 so I don't see them both starting.

Hill, Randle and Lin better crash the boards if they want shots.:D

In other small forward news....

Pierce decided to go to the Wiz for 2 years on the cheap. Not a bad move even if all he gives them is veteran leadership. He can still play though.

Deng has signed with the Heat but has a player option for next year. He'll probably test free agency again.

Ariza has signed with the Rockets for 4 years/32 million. That one seems like a lot. And probably means they won't match Chandler Parsons offer sheet so that makes him a Mav? Big move for the Mavs

Nope. I believe there re-signing Parsons last - since Parsons was on the Rockets last year, they have some leeway and are allowed to go XXX amount over the cap. Weird but thats how it works.

Edit: If they re-signed Parsons first and THEN signed Ariza, the Rockets would be hit with a fine going over the cap space since Ariza was not a Rocket last year.

Edit2: Wow looks like I ate my own words. Not sure what the Rockets are doing here... they could have easily re-signed him without hitting any penalty.

Lol think that was a case of wanting there cake and eating it too.

The thing is I wonder how Dwight Howard feels now. Initially it was said Parsons was the big recruiter to get him to Houston since they knew each other from Orlando days. He saw a future in teaming with Harden and Parsons.

I'm sure he would of sacrificed Parsons for a big free agent, but Melo turned them down, Bosh did as well. And now you still lost out on Parsons haha your big free agent splash was Ariza, while losing Parsons, Lin, and Asik? I see another DHoward tempur tantrum ;)

On another note turns out Gasol signed for 3 years/22 million. Lakers must hate that since I'm reading now there last offer was 2 years/22 million. He did chose winning over money.

And the bulls keep hyping this Nikola Mirotic European dude they finally signed. A 6'10, 3 point shooting big man. If D Rose is truly healthy they might be the eastern favorites.

i'm just gonna leave this here ...

Lance Stephenson taking his ear blowing talents to Charlotte lol

Charlotte only really lost McBob and they had a good run last year, this is a good move for them.

But this really hurts the Pacers! There offense would struggle and there was plenty of times he was there best player on the court.

This could be addition by subtraction for Indy, some of his teammates definitely wanted him gone. But they need to find a talented non-buttwipe to take his place. And Hibbert is still a headcase.
