the Super Twin is a completely awesome sounding head in it's own right, and IMO it'll hold it's own with the best of them. it's definitely one of my all time faves, and that's aying ALOT.

i actually tried some of the vibration stuff you recommended. 3 gigs over the friday last 2 days. very intreresting. "i put that sh#t on everything" next place upstairs washing machine near the bedrooms....

the TI's are about 8 months old so they're fully broken in and the pickups are stock. there are no mods done to the bass other than a vintage style pickguard, plexi TRC and i removed the bridge pickup cover.

The 8Pro gives you a lot more control over the level and type of tube overdrive, it is 2-ohm stable, and it pushes crazy amounts of power (we measured 2,400+ watts at 2 ohms). If you play mostly clean tones, and are happy with only knocking down walls in the immediate vicinity (versus knocking down walls across the street), the 7Pro is right up there with the 8Pro and costs a ton less. That's why I dubbed it (the 7Pro) the "King of class-D heads" in my review.

+1 And in a good way. I could see where with some cabs/basses, that Mullard would be my fave.
Now you have me wanting to roll some tubes in my 7Pro...

BTW, when you made the post in the PF500 thread and said that the 7pro is everything that the 500 was, that pretty much cinched the deal for me on getting one.
For me, the downside of a 7Pro is there are too many tones available. I don't need a sweepable mid or a bass control. Give me treble and mid boost/cut, gain, volume, and a master, and that's all the tone controls I want. More than that, and I find too many that I like, but forget where the one I really liked was, and then never get it back, so I spend all my time chasing a tone instead of practicing.
Wish someone would make a good and powerful one like that with that great Ampeg tone, at a reasonable price...

i don't really understand your dilemma at all. it doesn't have sweepable mids, they're click selectable and there's only 5 of them (but at very well placed freqs). if your cab doesn't need any changes to the mids, then leave the mid boost/cut knob alone (at noon) and just use with the treble and bass controls. it really the exact same as an SVT, only with two extra mid frequencies to choose from.
IMO, it's a super simple amp to get a great tone out of and if it's eq is too much for you to deal with, no offense, but i'd spend a little more time getting familiar with any amp's eq section so that you don't spend alot of time adjusting it. the trick to using eq is knowing exactly what you want and don't want. i could understand what you're saying if the front panel looked like my focusrite ISA4030MKII:

Happy to have helped! It's a darned impressive little unit. I ended up buying the unit we tested.
I can see where less is good. Hook a Summit TD-100 up to a poweramp and the sound is glorious. One can use active or passive EQ on the bass to make subtle timbre changes.
This is pretty much how I use my Shuttle 9.0. I set the EQ flat and play. The tone is identical to using the Summit if I match the gain. Sometimes I will click in the low boost for a cool bottom booty addition.

John, do you find most Ampeg amps sound great mostly flat through your 215s that have the 3015s and Faitals?

I'm a little late to the game on this one. I find the JJ ECC83 to have a consitant rolled off high end and the JJ ECC803 to be a good deal brighter sounding than the 83. The rolled of high end can come in handy in an overly bright situation but it can be a bit dark in some. Overall both of these tubes are IMO the best quality out there in current production.
It is really sad Blackburn Tube Tech ended up filing bankruptcy though I do hear some of the employees have the new designs and the equipment. Hopefully these will surface again. I have two of them and the tone is not of this world.
