NAD! SVT7 Pro (also comparing it to my Streamliner 900)

Finally had a listen to the clips with my K702s.... and got to hear some of the subtleties which were lost with the computer speakers. The "real" SVT seems to have a bit of "roundness" and maybe a little compression or "give" to it compared to the 7. Definitely heard the Mullard as more forward in the midrange, but that might work well in a mix.

i don't know if the SVT has much compression going on (maybe a tiny bit) but i definitely hear and agree with what you're hearing. it's definitely rounder and kinda softer (a bit less stiff) and has a little more depth and a little more harmonic complexity, but some of that might get a lost with a full band. to me, SVT's have always been a 'magic bass machine' ;), however, that said, i'm thrilled the the 7Pro and feel absoultely at home and at one with it. for me, it's an very inspiring amp to play thru.

and yeah, i thought about the Mullard's stronger mids possibly being benificial (since they're more complex and interesting to me) but the RCA feels very natural and sound great when i'm playing the head with it in there, so it's kinda of a toss up really.

Thanks. ... and thanks for all the clips. I'm pretty sure I'll have to get my hands on one of these some day. I'd love to A/B it with my Eden 550.

Hard to accurately describe tone with words.... :hmm:

Compared to the tube SVT, which seems to have a bit of "give" and added "grrrr", the 7PRO has a more "immediate" and perhaps slightly cleaner sound. I'd guess that the THD is higher with the all-tube amp. Though it isn't so much that one sounds better than the other as they are a little different sounding, but in the same tonal ballpark.

Also, the somewhat different EQ curves make it a bit of a challenge to hear other subtleties, like differences in distortion and dynamic response.

I guessed it rite, I hear a little more girth in the lows or low mids in the 1st track, still pretty close. Is that "Unconscious Power" from Iron Butterfly that your playing in that track?

i don't think it has to do with 'old ears' ;). i think it has to do with what you think of when you hear and SVT, and the 7pro definitely captures the 'vibe' of one.

true and the fact that my SVT's only see outdoor shows which IMHO always sound very different. Why didn't you start this thread before i just bought an super twin...... which i haven't even had a chance to pick up yet ...Only kidding!! I already had the 7 pro as i had one of the pf500 cut out versions so i upgraded....
