This is why I requested clips through 10 inch speakers. I want to think I will notice differences more clearly. For me there is some slight differences in tones but I think 10's will bring it out better.

i can make a 10" clip today, but i don't really want to make a bunch of them with rolling all of those tubes in it since i'd have to pop the top again. it's very time consuming and i have a busy schedule right now. but i disagree that the 10"s (or any size speaker) would magnify the differences, especially since the Faital 15PR400's have a smoother and wider frequency response than any 10" that i've ever heard or owned.

i got my SVT-VR out and i'm going to post a few comparison clips with the 7Pro later today. i plan to make four at least clips A/B'ing both heads with both of 215 cabs (3015's and 15PR400's). this time i'm not going to tell you which head is which, but i will tell you which cab is which. ;)

right now i'm thinking that i'll probably have to use a little eq on the 7Pro to emulate the SVT's tone controls set at 12:00, since the 7Pro seems to have a bit more mids.

FYI to those thinking about picking one of these up - I got mine at GC in Hollywood and specifically asked them to find a Rev C model (the floor model was still an "A" - yikes!). They went into the back for a while and emerged with a cardboard box saying an "A" was inside. They apologized and said I could return it or have them order me a "C" etc. (yes, they were helpful). I decided to take the "A" home anyway. When I opened the box, a Rev C was inside! So, if you're able to inspect before buying, insist on opening the box. What's printed on the outside may not be accurate.

I don't wanna piss John off with too much stroking, but, seriously, his committment here is noteworthy. I've had the pleasure of hanging with him at his place...I always walk away energized, having learned something, and in awe of his approach to sound. I could go on and on...he's got a scientific approach WITH good ears. Nice combo! The (2) 2x15 cabs he built were by ear. They CRUSH at what 51lbs. per? ....what can I say, I'd carry his gig bag. Not to get too mushy, where's my Fender PJ John??!! ;)

When they first came out, there was a cutting out problem that was eliminated after the first run. Those that had the problem were marked Rev A. They're up to Rev C now, so that's how you can tell the difference.

here's the first two clips running thru my dual 3015 cab. '59 RI Pbass/stainless rounds/V&Tcontrols full up, recorded on a zoom H4n 8" off of the top speaker.

i think that they sound really close so i'm not going to tell you which is which until i hear youse guys' take on them ;). but IMO, anyone that says that the 7 pro doesn't sound extremely close to an SVT might want to rethink it or play thru both amps side by side thru the same cab. i mean, i can hear a slight difference, but IMO, it ain't much.

Dang, pretty close! I'm probably wrong, but I think 1 is the 7 Pro and 2 is the SVT. I won't say why I believe that yet, but that's what I believe.

And this, folks, is why I stuck rigidly to a cab mic so long before going with the REDDI. Cab mics add a little beef to the tone that SS amps just don't quite get. If you take a SS amp with similar tone to your favorite tube amp but doesn't have the oomph, the cab mic adds a good deal of oomph back to it by the air from the cab hitting the diaphragm of the mic. Plug in the DI of the 7 Pro and compare it to a speaker out DI from the SVT and you'll be able to tell easier IMHO, but cab mics can do a lot to bring the gap closer.
