I actually forgot about Ambrosia! That one may have been one of the most fun gigs! Bass Player/Founding Member Joe Puerta (Also of Bruce Hornsby & The Range) used my SWR rig and asked me to drive him to Guitar Center to buy strings! It was SO cool to hang out with him! Incredible singer and player!

My band at the time opened for Berlin on their Pleasure Victim tour, in a theater that I used to go as a kid to see James Bond movies. The band my wife’s in, who I have subbed for, has opened for the English Beat a few times. Then, if it counts, a band that I had been in(but left amicably)got the opening slot for the Talking Heads. I’d still help them with crew stuff, loaning gear, transpo, etc., so I got to hang backstage. Had a substantial conversation with David Byrne. That was…different.
Other than that(if it also counts), a band I was an integral part of(wasn’t on stage, but mixed and did special effects for)opened for the Bad Brains, They Might Be Giants, and Fluid(Sub Pop band), and I went with them to SXSW and New Music Seminar in NYC. Gigged with Marty Willson-Piper, onetime guitarist for Australian band, The Church.
Also provided sound for, or mixed…L7, Babes In Toyland, The Cows, The Dwarves, Blake Babies(Julianna Hatfield), No Means No, Green River(pre-Mudhoney), Flaming Lips(their chaotic early days), Thin White Rope, Jai Uttal(new age/world music), Colin Hay solo, Rickie Lee Jones solo, and a guy named Andy Prieboy, who had replaced Stan Ridgeway in Wall Of Voodoo and guested with Concrete Blonde.

I am sorry. There is NO replacing Stan Ridgeway in " Wall of Vodoo". Could the "Jimi Hendrix Experience" replace Jimi? No. ....Sorry .. I am now cracking up at the comparison.... but ...still. ?

Yes, around that time and that area. Polvo, not that I recall but I do remember the name. Many of the shows we played had 4, 5, 6 or more bands on the bill. We were usually very, very early and most of those bands were headlining. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to play at the original Cats Cradle before it moved in the mid 90s.

Can I ask what band you were (are?) in?

I've met Vinnie Moore when he released Minds Eye he did a clinic at a music store, that was a long long time ago.
Dream Theater is an amazing band,

Wow! Are these the same guys from 86?.. I THINK, maybe just the guitarist is the only constant in the band. If he somehow owned the name all this time, I guess they do whatever he wants.

Well, that’s what they did, it wasn’t that successful. They did one album, covered the Beach Boys’ “Do It Again”(the video featured a very confused Brian Wilson), and then packed it in. AP’s solo stuff was pretty good, quirky, sarcastic, and he contributed to Concrete Blond’s “Tomorrow Wendy”. If it’s any consolation, another band I was in shared a rehearsal space with Stan Ridgeway. The drummer in that band used to roadie for WoV, and went on to play with him directly. Consider that a Phil-less Thin Lizzy has toured.

OMG, that is such a great story. ZZ Top at a state fair ? I mean, on the way UP, yes. ..... but... now I have to know WHICH state fair. I missed out on seeing ZZ Top.
