LOVE IT. i'm not as old (i grew up with Magic/Bird, not Russell), but I'm equally pumped about basketball. it's my only sport and the lakers are my only team, and there's nothing like giving it back to a celtic's fan. i honestly couldn't tell you about LA's other teams, not great not awful (unless you're talking about the clippers ;))

the lakers got calls because they took the ball to the hoop. great game down to the wire, the lakers earned their way back to the victory.

Great game. The Celtics , with their great defense, had several large leads throughout the game and even led by 13 points in the 3rd quarter. Face it, they choked. The lakers won because they won the battle of the boards, and they got all the calls because they were simply more aggressive and took it to the hole in the fourth quarter. They beat the Celtics at their own game, And that's including can I say DEFENSE? So don't hate, congratulate.

The Celtics didn't choke-the Lakers beat them. The best team won! Call 'em Fakers, Lakers, whatever. BUT YOU NOW HAVE TO CALL THEM 2009 AND 2010 NBA CHAMPIONS!!! LAKERS, BABY!!!! LAKERS!!!

Lakers-4 Celtics-3

GO LAKERS!!!

A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

The Lakers earned the victory, they defended better than they have all series and regardless of what Kobe or Jackson will admit, a victory over the Celtics especially in a Game 7 means more than beating the Magic.

That said - the Lakers have a grand total of 3 victories over the Celtics in the Finals which, if my math is correct is, 6 less than the 9 Celtic victories over the Lakers. But who's counting? ;)

Greg - the Celtics did not choke, as a Red Sox and Celtic fan, I have seen a lot of choking both by my teams and others - Ray had a bad night shooting but Kobe shot 25% from the field with Ray guarding him - did Kobe choke or did Ray play good D? The Celts ran out of gas and still nearly stole it. Time to rebuild.

In general, the refs let them play, which helped the Celts. They were not the story - thank God.

Artest and Wallace came up big for their teams - go figure.

I'll take a little comfort in the savings in police overtime tonight and tomorrow. Stay safe LA TBers until we meet again.

1) Agreed the Lakers won the game. There are always questionable calls in the NBA, you have to play with them. The Lakers got the home whistle, but it wasn't enough to decide the game

2) I felt going into this game that if the Refs let them play Boston would win. And for the most part that was the case (they let everyone but Wallace play) No one in the history of the finals gets a worse whistle then Rasheed Wallace, Oh well. That said the refs DIDN'T let them play for most the series and injected themselves in way to many of the games. Unless Stern wants Nike to start doing "Air Crawford" commercials he needs to tell the refs that the fans come to see the players.

3) Boston's offensive execution was horrid. You don't beat good teams UNLESS Stern wants to anoint you (Duane Wade) by running isolations for a freaking half. I kept waiting for someone in the Boston huddle to say PASS THE BALL

4) Rondo, is a very good player, he's still a flawed point guard. He has far to many turnovers and shoots like 40% from the foul line. This proved to be Boston's Achilles heel.

Neither team is a great team. Neither would have beat the championship teams of earlier in the Decade, San Antonio, LA and Detroit. Much less the great Boston-LA-Chicago-Detroit teams of the 80's and 90's. Both teams rely way to much on isolation for offense, and have terribly flawed (incomplete) players getting a lot minutes. That said here is my NBA finals All Star team for the decade 2000-2010

Starters:
PG Chauncy Billups
SG Kobe Bryant
SF Paul Pierce
C Shaquel O'Neil
PF Tim Duncan

Bench:

PG Tony Parker
SG Manu Ginobli
SF Tayshon Prince
C Ben Wallice
PF Kevin Garnett

HM Derek Fischer, Rasheed Wallace, Roert Horry

The toughest pick was Prince, But who else was starting small forward for an NBA champion in the decade? Rick Fox? Antoine Walker? Devon George? Bruce Bowen? I guess Small forward isn't as important as it use to be.

Lakers win.

LAKERS Win.

LAKERS WIN.

Oh, and Boston fan- where were you on the calls in Games 2, 4 and 5 when you were being given the games at will? Why didn't you just win 4 in a row or close it out in Boston, and "It ain't comin' back to LA?" like Pierce said? :o

Boston shoulda won that game easy. +13 in the 3rd and you blow it? That's all lack of concentration and desire. But I'm sure you'd still be bitching about "calls" if they'd won, too right? There were hardly any foul calls in the last 1:30 when it was coming down to the wire except the intentional on Sasha. They just couldn't put it in the basket. Tough breaks.

YOU LOSE.

+1. the celtics looked TIRED in the 4th. between that and the lakers attacking (which they had too because their jump shots were CLEARLY not falling) the rim/rebounds, and of course the lakers got the whistle. the c's had control in the 3rd, they just ran out of gas.

let them blame the officials, i've got a parade to go to :bassist::cool:

Puh-lease!

4th quarter fouls:
LA - 21
Boston - 6

The stats don't lie.

And if the C's are so old what's that say about them taking your Fakers down to the wire only to be denied by the other 3 on the Lakers payroll?

The officiating on both sides was the worst that I have ever seen in the Finals! I concur-the stats don't lie! The team that has won the rebound battle has won every game. The Lakers are the best team-get over it. If the Celtics had won, then they would be the best team. Better luck next year!

This guy's speaking the truth.

Bitching aside, it was a hell of a basketball game.

I wonder how that feels on the heels of the Bruins choking after being up 3-0 against the Flyers? I'll bet it stings.

:hiding:

Funny you mentioned that. I was listening to the local sports radio this morning and they had Scalabrini (a regular on there) on. He was still in LA, awake at 4am, and tanked. They were consoling him and said, "at least your not the Bruins." It was amazing. Boston really is a great sports town.

The fact the Flyers made it to the cup in what was a great series helped ease the Bruins sting for me (and there loss to the Blackhawks). But overall Boston has adapted to their fair of 'stings'. It wasn't really till the snowbowl and '04 when Boston felt getting close to a title and then actually getting it; since then wining has become expected. Everything was back to normal by 3pm though: sports radio was back to talking about the Red Sox and Manny (Dodgers playing here tonight; ironic).

It was a great series and game!!! It really sucks to lose to LA, but it was a great series. So much so, that I really don't like basketball at all, but got into this. Considering where they were mid season, I am impressed overall by the Celtics. Actually same for the Bruins. Both teams will do well next year.

Fair question, but I concur with Arb - 2 entirely different teams and situations.

The Bruins had a good run but they were fortunate to have built that lead in the Philly series. This was their first time back to the playoffs in awhile and the team had obvious flaws. The team is heading in the right direction but no one had any delusions that it was championship team.

The C's hurt because it was the finals and the championship was there for the winning. The C's and Lakers are evenly matched teams - that is why it went to 7 games and the result in doubt until late in the 4th of the last game. It also hurts because the core of the team is getting old and it may have been the last time they are together, and it may have been Doc's last game coaching.

I heard the Scalabrine call-in as well. If 98.5 ever puts that on its site by itself (it is currently buried in an hour long pod cast), it is worth listening to.
