I have more fun building basses than playing them.

I did a double take when somebody else replied to those words which I have said many times myself. I enjoy playing too, but suck at it (which is ok since I'm not gigging).

I have a Jazz build with a Fender logo.
To prevent the possibility of someone being duped, I'll be buried with it.
If someone wants to dig me up and steal it to sell it...

I did a build with a cheesy waterslide 'Fender' decal once before, and I soon came to the conclusion that was a pretty dumb thing to do. Scratched it off before selling it to get the whole project out of my head. Every Fender neck IMO ought to have a traceable connection with a Fender product. Aftermarket Fender necks are available to make builds and mods easy as cake. I like a decal - free headstock anyway, but that's me.

Me also. My belief is that it's the same thinking that makes one stuff a sock down their drawers. Until I hear otherwise, I'm stuck with that.

Pssst- the sock is ALWAYS discovered later and causes more problems.

Just part of the same issue regarding confusion and counterfeits. Tell you what - if we can go two weeks without a thread asking about a bass's pedigree, I'll back off. We usually can't go more than a day.

I'm sure that this guy has no plans on selling it as a Fender Precision bass. I'm completely against selling fake Fenders but if you build a parts bass and put a Fender waterslide decal on it, that's ok.
Personally I prefer a naked headstock but there's nothing wrong with a Fender decal as long as it's for personal use.

I don't want to be buried w/ any of my basses. Actually don't want to be buried at all, but rather cremated, so burning a bass would be even dumber than burying one in my mind. Maybe I'm hopelessly pragmatic, but I like the thought of someone else playing my stuff after I'm dead.

I like it and could care less about the logo as long as it isn't passed off as a Fender down the road.

Maybe a picture of Butters on the headstock would shut everyone up? THAT would look cooler than a Fender waterslide anyways!

How do you know it won't be sold later on, unless you are destroying it or being buried with it? How many of our kids/heirs want a sweet bass guitar more than some money?
