Looks a fair bit like chrome red. I have an '07 MIM Standard in that color. I didn't know the color was available in the mid 90s - I only remember seeing it on American Series instruments (both red and blue) in the early 00s.

Here are a few more pics from under the hood. I also noticed the body isn’t alder but have heard that some of the early 90s mim p’s had either poplar or basswood bodies.

I bought a brand new MIM P bass around 1999-2000 and had it several months before taking the neck off to have a peak. I was not pleased to find out it had been made of Cubes of wood like a butcher block . And yes, they were using poplar around that time frame.

Looks like chrome red to me. Would look awesome with a red pearl guard imo.

I actually tried that a it was just too much RED! But my black guard looks amazing to my eye.

Fender has been making laminated bodies and fingerboards since the beginning of time. My 1962 Jazz’s body is at least two pieces. They use the really nice looking pieces of wood for sunburst and natural finishes.

Everyone knows that Fender bodies are made from 2-4 pieces glued together. This was different, as I said I could see just from the neck pocket that the body was made of glued together CUBES of wood like a butcher block , probably dozens of pieces.
