I'm with everyone else. Nix the stickers but the ramp is cool. Personally I think ramps that match the pickups look best. Keeps everything looking clean and uniform.

I'm with everyone else. Nix the stickers but the ramp is cool. Personally I think ramps that match the pickups look best. Keeps everything looking clean and uniform.
I prefer ramps that match the pickups in color and sheen. Looks more uniform. Then again I'm pretty much over wooden pickup covers and knobs at this point.
I like block inlays and who knows, those might look great on your bass IRL. Here's a horizontal view of the same pic. Looks pretty nice. If it were an expensive experiemnt I might not try it... but it's your bass, not mine

Hey everyone. I had some time tonight to post a basic clip of the bass for your audio pleasure.
I ran the bass direct into my mac through Garageband. No Eq on the bass or the program. Everything you hear is flat. The coil switch on the bass was the only thing used to get different tones. I did not pan the pickups or anything. I will go ahead and make more clips later if there is interest. One thing you will notice is the volume increases as I went from both pups full on (first part of track), Bridge pickup full on with front coil of neck pickup (second part of track) and then single coil mode for the final part. My favorite tone is the single coil by far.

My feelings exactly! I love singlecuts.
The spacing is 19mm. It feels so great! His bolt-thru neck and the way he sculpts the neck/body joint is really nice.
I'm curious about the slap tone on that bass. The finger tone really reminds me of Anthony Jackson back in the early 1980s when he used a detuned Jazz. I expected something more MTDish, but there's not a thing wrong with sounding like a Jazz!

It gets very MTD when I put it in the quad coil mode and boost some eq into it. But, I really love the jazz tone.
The slap tone on this thing is beast. I will try to get a recording, but I can't play loud once the little ones are in bed. My wife will strangle me if I wake them up... hahaaha.

That is a huge compliment to these basses IMO. I love AJ's tone back in the 80's.
This is crazy. I was literally thinking today that I was gonna contact Kevin and see what the price of a completely stripped down version of his single cut would be. No joke...and then I stumbled upon this. I've always wanted one of his single-cuts, and while I think he makes the most beautiful basses ever, I can't see myself using something so flashy.
I picked up a Brute after playing one at NAMM with Steve Jenkins...I don't think there is another bass out there in that class that kills as much as the Brute. I can only imagine what this bass feels like. The sound clips are just the sound and tone I love.
I like the amount of string flex and "digging in" feel I get on the Brute at 34" scale. Is there really no real difference with the extra 5/8?
How close to being able to order one of these? And will there be a standard wood finish along with solid colors?

The Brutes do kill for sure. I agree with you about the super flashy custom ones.. not to mention I can't afford one of those. The bass feels incredible and I do not notice the 5/8 difference.
Not sure about finishes, but I am pretty sure he is shooting for basic solid colors and ones like this (somewhat trans) will be an upcharge. I do have to say that the piece of maple used on this one is really nice and could've taken a natural finsh quite nicely. But I am a sunburst fan and this one really suits my fancy.
My best suggestion is to contact Kevin and see what he has in the pipeline. Let me know what he says!
Kevin's been working on finalizing prices and models. The intent is to do this and obviously do it right. To that end he wants to offer all three basic models; NBS (doublecut), KXB (singlecut) and JXB (J bass). So far 22 frets and 34 5/8 scale, standard Bart package. Hipshot hardware. As far as the feel of the scale length most of mine are 34 5/8", the JXB-6 I just got is 34" and I can't tell the difference... I had to measure it to make sure.
The wood finish on Chris' bass is the upper end translucent burst finish, not a solid color. Still have to figure out what solid colors will be available. The intent is for everything to be done between the Brubaker shop and the local machine shop he deals with. Completely US built.

Hey all, here is the most recent update I got from Kevin regarding these. Let me just say that my first take on this bass was the fact there was 24 frets and it made slapping (for me) a bit more challenging in that I had to be a little more attentive to where I slap. But, based on this email, it looks like 22 fret will be the standard (which is a good thing if you ask me).
"Right now we are looking at a 22 fret model like your bass- 5 string trans. finish etc. is going to be $2499.00(4 string-$2399) with a hardshell case possibly and a solid satin finish 22 fret is going to be $2349.00(4 string $2249). We will start with the 22 fret bass as the standard for now."
I am not sure how solid these prices are so if you are really interested, definately contact Kevin. I was shocked to see a 4 string in there as I thought he was only going to do 5's. So, that is good news.
