NBD - Colour-shifting!

Just got this bass last night so I didn't have much time to put it down to take some pics. This is a new Stingray Special, I believe it is 1 of 5 made in this colour-shifting finish which looks like a blueish purple to maroon, to a bright orange depending on the viewing angle and lighting. Very cool.

Plays and sounds great and compliments my other SR Specials quite nicely as this one has a rosewood fb compared to my others which have ebony and roasted maple for their fretboards.

Haha, thanks! It was actually very easy to do. It came from Home Depot in packs of 8 planks and each plank would just be a random stain so you just mix and match them and cut them to different sizes to make it look random and then I just used a nail gun to put them up. One key was to paint the entire wall black so that any gaps or knots in the wood wouldn't show through.

Lol, I'm very proud of both that barnwood wall, as well as the Rays. Unfortunately, I don't have room on that particular wall for my fretless SR so it's on the other side of the room. I think I'm going to take a pic of all my MM basses in a few moments.

I remember when a few car companies were using that paint... I believe they called it ChromaLusion. It screamed 1990s and looked like it the car was covered in oil. It never caught on and disappeared.

I've seen cars like that before. But not a bass. Very nice!

Wow. I remember first seeing this type of paint on a custom car in the mid 60s. Too cool, especially at night!

In the automotive world, that paint effect is referred to as "flip-flop", and it is very much alive in certain segments of the custom car genre.

A local girl painted her car in a flip-flop blue-green that looks pretty cool as you walk around it. The car is a little more subwoofer/low rider than I'm into, but the paint's kinda cool. But I agree that the OP's new bass finish is great. I especially like it from the orange angle.

Nice bass and collection. Different angles and different light sources can make a difference. But that bass is unique. Here is my black and maple SR5 under a black light. Note pic guard is still black.
