NBD: G&L ASAT--my impressions

I had an ASAT and it was a great bass. Clear blue over ash with maple board. Got it new for about $800 after it had been in a shop for a couple years. Was actually going to buy an L2000 but the guy said they had the ASAT at another location. I always wanted an ASAT and it really was a beauty!

There was a guy that made these extenders for ASATs that, if I had one, i would be trying to get. I think he stopped but it helped with any neck dive issues.

He is me and I stopped making those years ago. It completely solved the neck dive and position issues for me. Consider yourself luck if a hornless bass doesn't render playing almost impossible.

Cool. I always thought that the ASAT should have something like the "wing" on the back of the Steinbergers.

I "borrowed" Steinberger's idea from a Nolan bass a friend owned. Although that had a swing out arm, I decided to go with a fixed position.

There is great looking surf green ASAT at a GC in Tempe. I happened to swing by the store and saw it up on the wall but couldn't get any of the sales people for me to try it out. Looks more baby blue than surf green.

That's called Belair Green, I used to own one. Very cool color.

Not that I know of. If they did I'd probably have one.

They did make a few (maybe 3?) as customs several years back. Rare as hen's teeth and command quite a pretty penny if they ever go up for sale.

Yes, that's standard on them as I understand--I prefer the lower of the two

I have never owned a G & L, but when and if I ever decide to get one, it'll likely be an ASAT...quite possibly my fave singlecut shape of all time...
