NBD (Jaw-dropping G&L Content)

That is a sweet lookin' bass  I have spent a lot of time eyeing the CLF L-1000's online. I'd love to try one someday. And if I were to buy an L-1000 then it would 100% for sure be the same as yours. I love the natural swamp ash look

Just do it before the price goes up. I am sure it will soon. I got a ridiculously good price at SW.

I slept on the EBMM Cutlass and then it went up like $700 before being discontinued.

It took months for this to come in stock, but it's finally mine. A beautiful 2022 G&L L-1000 in natural swamp ash. 8 lbs 10oz. Just strung it up with La Bella LTF-4A flats. Magical. The neck, the low action, wow...I just can't even....

I'll post more comments later. I'm sort of speechless over this one...

Often thght bout these. Interesting PU placement. Is it like a P bass but hotter?
Not really answering your question but I’ve owned a early ‘80s Stingray but couldn’t learn to love the tone so I sold it.
My first 5 string was a really nice Cort that had an MM style pickup but located a little further away from the bridge than the standard Stingray position. It sounded ok and served me well for many years but then the truss rod stripped.
I bought a cheap Chinese neck that just coincidentally was based on a Music Man style so I put it on the old Cort body and moved the pickup to the standard Precision position. It sounds great. I’m very happy with the result and it’s very enjoyable to play. In my opinion pickup location is probably the most tonally influential decision in a bass build.

IME, this is the best of the best of G&L. I’ve switched gears and am on a five string kick, but this is the best P bass I have played.

Lucky for you, they are coming out with a 5 string version of the l-1000!

That’s not lucky. That’s an expensive problem. :bored:

I’m a dedicated 5 string player as well. I’ve been looking for a great 5 string P with a rosewood fingerboard and a great low B. I already have my StingRay and Jazz type 5’s covered. The P was the missing link. The G&L L1000 might be exactly what I was hoping for.
If so, it will be worth the cost. :smug:

Don’t get me wrong - I’m a four string player. I just finally figured out what 5 string neck profiles work for me, so I’m enjoying an extended diversion.

My one gripe about my CLF L-2500 is the neck radius. It is smaller than a regular L-2500, and I wish it wasn’t. I hope the fiver version of an L-1000 keeps the radius at 12” or more.

Edit: I think I have said this before, but when it comes to G&L, 1000 > 2500.

Congrats! I love the looks of Swamp Ash. G&L makes great stuff and I'll put a vote in for liking the headstock shape. (No disrespect meant to anyone who doesn't like it.) I've had a couple nice ones over the years and still have a seafoam green ASAT in the closet. They have all been great quality instruments.
