NBD-Mockingbird Heritage Classic

among the other 3 basses that i've been working on, i finally got around to getting the headstock overlay underway on the black mock.

i planed/sanded the face .065" in order to accomodate the .065" indian rosewood veneer and it is now installed. i also cut out a mother of pearl "R' logo inlay for it. hopefully i can cut the inlay into the rosewood tomorrow, glue it in, and get a couple of coats of sealer on it.

here's a pic of the headstock as it is now:

here's a pic of the .065" thick mother of pearl logo inlay:

and here's the inlay placed into the approximate position that it is going to be:

funny thing how just redoing the headstock is really starting to make it look more like the original. and i'm going to be making a new white corian nut for it to replace the black plastic one, as well as make a new truss rod cover out of either polished aluminum or polished brass (the original's was polished brass).

thanks. just finished assembling it today. to me it's kinda amazing how just changing the look of the headstock makes the whole bass appear alot differently.
i also made and installed a new genuine bone nut and a brass truss rod cover (and signed it)

the red one is going to get the same treatment next.

All I can say is Thank You for designing one of the best looking basses on the market!! Just got my first Mockingbird (an ST) and even though it's not "top of the line" I couldn't be happier!! I've wanted one of these since the early 80's!!! Thanks again!! But I do agree with the "R" logo thing!!!! I was just lucky enough to find somebody was willing to part with one here!! (even if it is a newer one!!!)

Would just like to add my own "Thanks!" to you for designing the Mockingbird. Next to the Les Paul it is my favorite guitar and bass design. I have a BC Rico Mock bass and a BC Rich Mock guitar and have my eye out for another Mock bass, looking for all black. To add to this thread, incredible work you did on customizing the black mock and agree, the old "R" logo is best and wish they new company hadn't done away with it. Thanks again John!
