Seriously, though, what a score! I was born across a Great Lake from Canada back in 1980 and might have a new candidate for a birth year bass in one of these. That checks a lot of aesthetic boxes

This rare bird is a new name for me. I see the time-frame it came from, there were lots of Alembic-influenced designs back then, and the stop tail and bridge remind of Veilette-Citrons from those days. Also, the pickups, backed against the bridge and the end of the fingerboard tends to give them that lotta bottom with a ticky high end to go with it. You see this in a lot of earlier days basses, from EB's to Rics and Alembics.

Stunning, and no doubt a grown man's bass in all maple, but it must really walk and talk, and it's gorgeous, the herringbone trim is a cool touch (though I wonder why no one has ever picked up abalone trim from high-end acoustics).

Congrats on finding this amazing bass in such stunning shape. Rock On.

I could never afford one either!
I think the cheapest base model started at $399 ... and something like this was at least $870 (about $4000 in today's money)

1980 Odyssey which was a Vancouver Canada company with Atilla Balogh (RIP) at the helm. This is the B100 which retailed for around $1000CAD in 1980. Solid birdseye maple , its a lug at close to 12lbs, it easily has 2lbs or so of proprietary brass on it with Grover Wavys being the only outsourced hardware. Bartolini pickups, passive wiring. kind of a hybrid between a Paul Reed Smith and a Rickenbacker. I always found them beautiful and spent the last several years looking for a nice one at a decent price. Found this old girl in the UK a few weeks ago and she arrived this afternoon

Very beautiful binding like Ric, as you said. That sure does NOT look like a 12 lb bass. I bet it sounds REALLY good because the pickup placement is exactly like an Alembic Distillate, if that's the correct model I'm thinking of.

There was a book written on Odyssey last year available at Amazon as well as a Facebook group. A gentleman unaffiliated with the original Odyssey is attempting to relaunch the brand , so far only lower priced guitars have been made available

That looks like a B200 which is an ash body, beautiful fiddle, I had a B200 bass a few years back, inspired me to search for the B100

I have one of the B200's which I got as a ignorant young lad some 40+ years ago. It has been used, abused, defretted, refretted and suffered other atrocities. It also weighs 12 pounds and with those Bartolini's I can confirm that the tone is glorious.
