Actually, the TL-Five does have a tone control when in passive. Although IMO not quite the range of say a 'normal' jazz bass, the treble knob becomes a passive tone control.

I thought something like that would make sense but I guess I didn't look hard enough. Thanks, I'll try that out.

TL-5s with Super Ferrites are not narrowly spaced. They are 18mm at the bridge.

Well... I could have told you that...
If I had a metric ruler. And if I was as thoughtful as the good doctor and measured it for you.

@Insederec @.... there is a trim pot under the hole in the control cover on the back. It sets the balance between active/passive by changing the volume level of the preamp.

Did they make these in a four? I like everything about this except the too many strings part.

The Dyna Bass bolt on is as close as there is. Same pickups and preamp.
