Lol, you are spot-on with that! I finally learned to NEVER get on here looking for "the best this-or-that" because it is exactly as you posted........unless you just feel like being confused for a while. As one with pretty heavy duty ADHD, it makes my head spin...... and gives me major GAS. I will also never, ever let anyone see my "bass room". My ADHD is such that I really, really have a hard time completing one project!
I'll tell you: if you can remove and cover a pickguard in vinyl, you can do the pickup re-positioning job, no problem. Just unscrew the pickup mounting holes, dry-fit the new pickguard, place the pickups in the new spot, slip an awl or heavy needle through the pickup holes and mark, remove everything, drill small pilot holes and re-assemble everything. Probably one of the easiest feats to perform, since no soldering required. And the GZR's and a himass bridge? Great choices! I've also purchased a couple maple P necks and they both needed slight leveling and de-fretsprouting (is that a word?) but they turned out great for the 2 projects they were commissioned for.
My plan is to get the new 2TS bass in, install the pictured pickguard (posing so elegantly above my new acquisition, a 2004 Squier Standard Precision in Antique 'Burst), install a threaded-saddle bridge and a new alnico pickup from the STRATosphere and kind of make it look like a 1958 Precision bass. And, 1958 is my birth year, so I really hope it turns out well.
