I must agree the sunburst is butt ugly but this Debut begs to the be bought and transformed. If the neck and body ergos pass muster 'the rest is gravy', to coin an old exprression...

That Yellow model is a perfect candidate for some pop art graphic treatment. Add in some serious hardware mods and you could really get your money's worth!

Not a virtuosic song choice, but nice cut to show the Squier strutting its stuff! Not in FOH, what you hear is 70 ft away in open air: Mesa WD800 into a Phil Jones Bass C-8 ( 8 x 5”) cab with only about 200 watts driving it (master was at @ 8:00)

Super deal for a basic bass.
In summary, the Debut has minor issues: FAR FEWER THAN ONE MIGHT EXPECT AT THIS PRICE POINT..
**For the price of a bare neck you get a whole bass** that is MORE than serviceable!
I gigged it after string change and minor setup!
Issues are minor and easily addressed , with elbow grease and finesse, (fret ends / light dress to flatten high frets) upgrading tuners both for quality and for weight to address the SLIGHT neck dive. Nut of better material, PERHAPS better pots (pickup is fine) and shielding.
I build basses and have owned some high end examples for Warwick, fender, G&L.
This is a respectable bass that is a FANTASTIC value.

meantime dialing it in and playing it in, putting time on the flats to break them in.Shaved high fret.
Noticed that the pickup pole pieces are protruding above the shells at random heights not a huge issue, but sloppy.
Playing pretty nice.
Higher tension strings pulled a little bow into the neck, adjusted trussrod and all good now. Will likely need to shim the neck slightly, barrels are on the deck now, and action will go lower. Will adddss when disassembled for pickguard swap.
Will likely go into my parts bin and find a set of Split coils I *think* I have while I’m at it.
I chose to go with the gold glitter.
Took it apart.
Replaced the tape shim, with business card.
The fretboard was dry and dirty. Applied sparingly mineral oil, and hand buffed, looks GOOD.
Shielded and replaced pots with CTS 250k audio for Vol , Linear for tone, Fender 22 cap, Switchcraft jack, waxed cloth silver wire. Fully Copper tape shielded, sanded spot on the bridge for better contact.
Need to order knobs for solid 1/4 inch shafts.
Turns out there was glue under the covers giving the appearance that the poles were different lengths. Corrected and re-installed.
Took it apart.

That turned out great! The bling pickguard is an attention-getter, for sure. I also like the stock pickup. Sounds great, as-is!
With the full shielding its silent , even when hands free it’s put in proximity of power supply for my Mac!
The pickup sounds good, output is good, tone is good, string to string response is even. Lower on the E and G side of each shell, “roof slope” slightly to follow radius.
Pickup sounds better /smoother with the better pots, jack, and wire. The pot tapers and the cap provide smooth volume and tone variation.
