NBD - Starry Night SLO Special Stingray

I know there have been a few other Starry Night NBD posts lately, but I had to join the party. I was surprised when I stumbled upon this SLO Special listed by Willcutt Guitars. It's got to be super rare as I have not seen any other SLOs listed for this run. Hard to say if anyone else ordered one since EBMM doesn't disclose production numbers but there can't be many. Pics do not do it justice. It is difficult capture this finish. I took a few outside cell phone shots to show off more of the sparkle. In different lighting the outer edges can either appear darker black/grey or sometimes more blue/purple. The roasted flame on the neck is DEEP. Best I've ever witnessed with my own eyes. It's like it moves as the light hits it from different angles. Plays like a dream! I don't normally go in for that sort of finish. But I have to admit that Starry Night look has me hearing voices. Maybe not enough to make me go out and get one. But it's still a really pretty bass.

I won't even ask how it sounds. It's a Music Man Ray. I already know it sounds great.

Play it well. :thumbsup:

Thanks... and no problem! SLO Special necks are more slender like a jazz profile neck. 1.5" at the nut compared to the typical Stingray neck, so basically like a Sterling neck on a Stingray. SLO stands for San Luis Obispo where USA Ernie Ball Musicman instruments are made.
I believe they put them in a special oven after kiln drying the wood to roast them. Sorry, I really don't know specifics but do know that they aren't chemically treated.

The Starry Night is an amazing run of EBMM instruments. I've seen many at various sites recently but they don't stay available for long. Most I've had my eye on have now sold so if you see one that you really want grab it now before someone else does. :cool:

Wow, you really hit the jackpot with the neck, those flames are gorgeous - and the finish is truly Bad A$$! And then to have it topped of with a SLO profile and matching headstock... :) Congratulations and enjoy! :thumbsup:

No, I passed on the Sterling. You should see it pop up at Sweetwater sometime this week. For some reason it shipped in a Stingray case, so that may delay it hitting the store for a bit.
Unfortunately, with EBMM everything is luck of the draw. You could get one with birdseye or flame or both or something highly figured or something just slightly figured. You could end up with an Stingray under 9 lbs. or one 11 lbs. That's what makes custom ordering these runs such a gamble. Ideally, you get to pick the one you want based off of looks and weight out of a lineup of several, but unless that choice is a Standard Stingray you probably will not get that luxury.

Pretty sure it has a matching headstock. If it is the one I'm thinking, it is owned by another TB'er. The Caprice in Starry Night does look awesome. At the point the Starry Night order window was open, the Cutlass and Caprices had not hit the streets yet. With only a couple of stock photos available on their website at the time, it was hard to visualize what it might end up like. Kudos to the few that were bold enough to take that chance!
