Well done - congrats. Remember, the Ray is naturally scooped - the natural sound is great but if you need a bit more mid in any situation, then tweak the low mid or mid a little on your amp ;-)

There is a Stingray club somewhere on Talkbass if you haven't found it yet.

On a two-band SR, you can accentuate the mids a bit by turning down the bass and treble. You will obviously have to adjust the volume accordingly.

Not that you can't also add mids at the amp. More than one way to skin a cat.

It was at guitar center over the summer they were blowing out musicman stuff. The classic stingray was an even better deal. I paid 929 because of a promo they were doing when I bought the black ray. I got $200 off anything in the store. The classic was listed for 1129.

And now some more details:
yes, this is the basic model. I'm in the UK. List is £1099 - lots of shops have them (or the other colours, including blue pearl) at this price. You can get them with maple or rosewood neck. I paid £934 - Nevada (Portsmouth) had a 15% off for Black Friday. I thought this was a pretty good deal. The 2nd hand shop price for this type seems to be about £850. Bassdirect and the Great British Bass Lounge have some. I thought it was worth the extra £70 to get a new one!

The spec seems to be
- wide neck (41mm)
- satin neck finish
- compensated nut
- 2EQ
- 34" scale
- gloss black body
- rosewood fingerboard
- single MM humbucker
- NOT 'Classic', although I'm not quite sure I understand what that means. I think it would imply a different pickup and possibly a narrower neck

I couldn't have stretched to any of the fancier models, but AFAICS I've got everything that makes a Stingray a Stingray - so I'm missing
- 2nd pickup
- sunburst
- 3EQ
but really, I can live without any of these as they'd have made it way too expensive

re: scooped and mid, I can't try it with my proper rig until Wednesday, but I'm expecting this to be fun - my Markbass mini stack can be as middy as you like, and I also have an EQ pedal

LOL Stingrays scooped? Those things growl as a bloody BEAST. With a SINGLE PU in that position, there's no such thing possible as a scoop, unless you boost both EQ-bands to max. A Jazz with boths pickups full on, THAT is scoop. A Ray will slice through every mix like a hot knife through butter.

OP - your selection is brilliant!
As the owner of a number of Stingrays over the years I can confirm that if you're going for the purist stingray look and sound you couldn't have done better! The multi pickup Rays are nice but to me don't sound exactly like my PreEB Ray. And the 3 band preamp isn't a bad preamp but again, my 2 band had deeper lows and crisper highs than any of my 3 bands plus it was much quicker to adjust the tone on the fly with the 2 band (always left my treb on 25% and bass at 75% then tweaked the bass up or down depending on how much mid range I wanted). As for sunburst, save that for your Fenders, a Jazz or P just wouldn't be a Fender without the sunburst. Nothing looks and sounds as menacing as a black on black Ray! It's a very classic and timeless look for that bass. You've got a gem there, pay it proudly!
