A piezo-electric bridge pickup produces a sound that isn't particularly warm, and it's definitely an acquired taste.

Of course, the pre-amp (on some guitars and basses) can be designed in such a manner as to add the necessary mid-to-bass tones.

My own experience with piezo bridges in six-string guitars has been all-in-all unsatisfactory.
My old Kramer Ferrington guitar (and an equally old Kramer Ferrington bass guitar) sounded thin and tinny, and had feed-back problems.

One exception;
The Washburn SBF-80 guitar, which emulates incredible acoustic guitar tones.

Peter’s ESH had a piezo so it makes sense his sig model does. Although I agree that I wouldnt have guessed that from his sound, you could also argue that his sound is really different album to album.

That's an Esh thing. Most of their models have always come with some variation of their Eshtronic system, which includes bridge piezos. The big Esh-branded knob is the rotary selector. Used to have one, can't remember what the piezo tones sounded like, but I recall they were usable.

Well, I plugged it in and played it. I love the EM pickup. I've never had my own MM pickup before.
The piezo--well, I think there's a bad ground or something. The Piezo has some awful scratchy noise, and it's not the pickup. I asked the seller what they know (no response yet). Next stop may be to contact Esh.

Anybody have any ideas?
