Good Morning TB!

Hope you all are getting around the updated site with grace and aplomb.

I have an overdue double NBD post, as I’ve had two new basses come in over the past month or so. Things have been busy at home and I haven’t made the time to post these other than in the model specific club forums.

First up is an EBMM Sterling in Raspberry Burst. I’ve mentioned this bass a few times during its build time over the past 6 months but it finally arrived about a few weeks ago. This is a standard 2024 Sterling H model with the roasted maple neck, older style Schaller tuners, ceramic pickup, 3 band pre, and series/single coil/parallel selector switch. Out of the case it felt great but had action a little higher than I like. I tweaked the truss rod just a bit and she plays so smooth, much the like its sister in Pacific Blue Burst. I kinda sorta impulse ordered this after I received the Pacific Blue Burst Sterling since the darker color of the PBB looked a little too dark around the edges and I wanted to be able to see the wood grain a bit more.

At a few points, I thought I might move along the PBB if I loved the Raspberry Burst but now that I have them both, I’m definitely keeping them. They both weight just about 8.5 pounds, sound and feel great, and they are some sweet eye candy IMO, especially when together. I’ve taken this out to rehearsal a few times and it sounds fantastic live, not just through headphones or at bedroom volume.

Second on the card is a 2017 EBMM Caprice in Heritage Tobacco Sunburst. I was after these when they first came out in the mid 2010’s as it was a passive EBMM, PJ configuration, and I thought they just looked so cool. I’d have preferred to get my hands on the natural ash/maple FB combo, but I haven’t seen one of those for sale in a while. Back around 2016, I was in a Guitar Center with a friend and they had one of these basses in stock. I sat with it for about 15-20 minutes and decided I was going to have one, whenever I could make it happen financially. It took me about 8 years to finally stumble across one and, having been fortunate enough to get my gear situation in a state where I’m left needing nothing, I decided to treat myself.

I purchased this from a memeber here on TB and when it arrived, I was rather smitten. It sounds better than I remember it in that Guitar Center and this P pickup is just gnarly when soloed. I was considering grabbing a straight P bass at some point just to have one in the quiver, but I don’t think I need one anymore with this Caprice in the lineup. With both pickups dimed, it has a pleasantly scooped tone that isn’t too empty in the mids. But when you roll that jazz pickup off, the P pickup just grabs you. It’s a bit more intense than my old Dimarzio Split P blade style pickup that I used to have in my other bass, in a good way. When you roll off the tone knob, it gets a bit more wooly and thick than I’d probably use, but in a live setting with the tone at 100%, the p pickup just can’t be ignored.

It fills out the sonic space so well; my bandmates in my originals band noticed it immediately and have complimented the tone of that bass more than once. I’m very happy that I ended up pulling the trigger on it- Definitely a keeper. The classic looking decal on the headstock is sweet, the neck is very comfortable to play, and the finish is classic. It came with a tort guard that I’ll probably put back on, but for now I’m digging the black PG.

Enough rambling….

Thanks for reading!
Sweet

Love those Sterling's. Never understood why they weren't as popular as the regular MM.
I figure they just aren’t on the records/in the hands of people’s bass heroes 🤷🏻‍♂️

For me they’re awesome, and the only reason to be bummed that this one isn’t a StingRay is you can’t make its theme song 🎵 Raaaaaspberry Burst ‘Ray 🎶

Congrats !!!

The Sterling looks very nice.

Love 'em both, but that Sterling is amazing.

They are both incredible, especially your Sterling!

Thank you for the kind words!! I think I’m a bigger fan of the Raspberry Burst with the chrome hardware and roasted maple FB as opposed to the black hardware and ebony FB on the Stingray Specials.

The Caprice is such a great sounding PJ. Full and meaty, but really bites. Congrats!
Thanks! And absolutely agree on the sound- bite is a great term for it. That p pickup soloed has plenty of it to go around.

Love those Sterling's. Never understood why they weren't as popular as the regular MM.
Agreed. I always tacked it up to the Stingray having been around since the seventies and the Sterling only being released in 93 or so. With the Stingray being essentially synonymous with Music Man bass, the Sterling has probably flown under the radar to a degree.

Awesome choices!!!!!!
That EBMM Sterling in Raspberry Burst is great looking and love the all the different tones you can achieve with that bass.
I cherish my beautiful 2007 Ernie Ball Music Man Sterling HH4 Honey Burst that I bought one 2 years ago.
Very versatile bass indeed, and that’s with only an H! I may look into getting an HH in the future, but I’m pretty content for now.

This too- I’m not sure there’s been an artist signature Sterling model, at least one that’s been released as a production run, limited or otherwise. Probably speaks to your point that they aren’t in the spotlight like the Stingray has been for quite some time.

So you're not selling the blue one?
This is correct, for now at least.

Such a cool collection! I say put flats on one Sterling and rounds on the other...

I prefer the Raspberry Burst myself
Thanks! That thought has definitely crossed my mind. The Caprice came to me wearing flats so I still have that set in my bag. I may throw them on one of the Sterlings just to see how it sounds, even though I'm generally not a big fan of flats.

3 very nice basses. That Rasberry Burst steals the show. I’m glad that EBMM was willing to build the Sterlings for you. ( Not to be confused with the import Sterling by MusicMan line.)
I appreciate it! And yes I was glad when they said they could take another order for a Sterling. I don't know what their long term plan is with that model but hopefully they keep it around.

JK of course. Congrats. Can't understand the vanishing of the Caprice. They were very nice.
:roflmao:

I ordered the Raspberry Burst back in December 2023, so it was more of a timing thing with both of them showing up so close together lol.
