It's funny/sad watching Coach Boom burn through OC's. He probably needs to take a step back and return to being a DC.

And Jonathan Smith just hired Mike Riley as assistant HC at Oregon State. Who next, his old coach Dennis Erickson? Or maybe Ocho Cinqo?
Some of the Coug fans are convinced that Leach is panting for a big offer to leave Pullman. Others (like me) are convinced he likes it there and doesn't have a history of jumping to bigger programs (just consider 10 years at Texas Tech, and don't tell me he didn't have offers.)
I sincerely hope to be putting up with Leach's odd ways and occasional illogical losses for years to come. He's a perverse gem!!

I think it's going to be very interesting to watch Herm Edwards at Aryzona State. He'll shake it up there.
A day ago ESPN was speculating that Kiffin was headed for Oregon. Oregon dodged a bullet. Cristobal is an offense guy, so that means Oregon will remain true to form. And, with any luck, get stomped by the Huskies for at least twelve more consecutive years. Kismet and all that.

Among the couple Gator commits who have since changed course, the Gators got some sad news today that freshman WR James Robinson has a heart condition that will not allow the university to clear him to play football.
This may actually be good news as he has already been suspended once for marijuana possession and was caught with it when he visited Ohio State during the recruiting process.

Bumping this back up. I've been entered in a bowl-picking competition with some friends, but I've been so busy I have yet to make the picks. I'm going to have to make a note on my calendar to do this tomorrow night--hard to believe the bowls start in about 48 hours.
I'm pleased that Colorado State seems to be a favorite this weekend over Marshall, but concerned that the analysts seem to be favoring Michigan State over Wazzu. The betting line still favors the Cougs but not by much.
I keep thinking about the Potato Bowl in Boise, and frankly I think the new CSU stadium in Fort Collins would be a much better location for a cold weather bowl. I know both towns, and Fort Collins is a much better travel destination. The new stadium is really nice, and has the additional feature of NOT having eye-straining blue turf!

I'm not sure how anybody plays football or does anything on Boise State's field without a handy barf bag nearby. I get motion sick looking at pictures of it. I hate to think what it's like in person.
Big 10 and Pac 10 are playing each other a lot this bowl season. If the Rose Bowl can't be a Big 10/Pack 10 face off like it should be, then this year's bowls are a decent second choice. I should have said Pac 8, but I'm trying to get into the late 20th century. The 21st century effort comes next year.

I think that Fort Collins would make a MUCH better place for a cold weather bowl. We have a new 36,000 seat CSU stadium that's much more attractive, and FoCo is a lot more fun place than Boise.
At least our friend Gaolee has moved into the 2000's with the PAC-10. We'll hope he can make it to the PAC-12 before 2020.
And I don't know much about this year's Washington team. As far as Penn State, their marquee name is of course Saquon Barkley. VERY talented running back and kickoff return man.
There are some lesser-known names who contribute a lot as well. When you look at QB Trace McSorley, you think, "Too small. He'll get killed back there". But he's very quick and escapes a lot of what look like sure sacks. And given time to plant his feet, he's pretty accurate. Their #1 receiver is DaeShon Hamilton. But Barkley also catches a lot of passes out of the backfield (similar to Leveon Bell with the Steelers). Their big tight end, Mike Gesicki, is often a clutch receiver when they need a first down.
On defense, their players to watch are DE Shareef Miller, LB Jason Cabinda, and S Marcus Allen.
