I did not even consider picking them vs. Boise State in my pool. (I got 5 of 6 right yesterday, CSU let me down--I blame McElwain.)

By the way, I learned during that game that Oregon led the entire nation in both penalties and penalty yards this year. I'm looking forward to seeing how many FSU can rack up under Taggart.

Florida has a WR now, picking up Ole Miss transfer Van Jefferson. I think he has two years left of eligibility, which the NCAA should grant since he is transferring due to the Ole Miss sanctions.
Remains to be seen who will throw it to him though.

With the new early signing days in December, it turns out that just for once Wazzu (bowl game late December) had an advantage over Oregon (early December game) because of the timing of the bowl game. Coaches at Wazzu had more time to work with recruits.

Of course, Oregon's season may not have helped a lot either, but I'll take any advantage I can get.

Check you out Dan Mullen, snagging an OSU commit in Emory Jones at QB.
Seems like Urban Meyer has lost a few recruits lately. The OSU apologists will say those recruits were bad guys anyway and Urban was happy to see them go, but I wonder what else is going on.

That kind of thing makes it really easy for me to root for Washington and Chris Peterson. He's really well paid, but I suspect he will stay in Washington for a while. He doesn't seem to mess around with discipline issues. When the Huskies got Tyrone Willingham as the head coach, I thought it was a good thing because their collective GPA and graduation rate would go up and they would win games. That's all turned out to be true, but it had to wait until Peterson came along.

Yep. I realize coaches are generally pretty ruthless in recruiting, but this seems beyond the pale. Then again, I still think the way Meyer left UF was skeevy, so whatever.

I realize it's just all potential and stats right now, but I can see this working out great for Mullen and Florida.
Dan did alright with another dual threat QB when he was coaching the Bulldogs.

Washington seems to be quietly putting together a pretty decent recruiting class. Peterson has a history of getting a whole lot out of kids nobody else thought of recruiting. Of course, USC is the poster child for highly rated recruits underperforming. Next season ought to be pretty good here in the upper left corner. The University of O'shoes' recruiting class looks pretty good on paper, too.

I always liked that about Boise State when Peterson was there. They'd win and win and win with guys no one ever heard of.
To me, that's the key right there...finding the guys no one is talking about.
I compare it to shopping for bourbon, or even wine. Anyone can go to a liquor store and buy the highest priced bottle and walk out with something really good. The really talented bourbon/wine drinker walks out spending just a fraction of the cost yet has a high quality beverage.
Wowing four and five star recruits, hoping they choose your school, doesn't take a lot of talent, generally speaking. Finding that young man with the four and five star skills, but flew under the radar, is talented.

Exactly. Which makes me wonder what's going on when Peterson is getting four star kids. They have to know he's not going to put up with any nonsense, so maybe they are the same kinds of under the radar hard workers he got before, just more skilled to start with. They are going to lose Coleman and probably Gaskin after this season, and they didn't land a bruiser at running back. Salvon Ahmed is a burner and about as elusive as they come, but he's not a road grader. Peterson also has a history of plugging kids into places they weren't originally thinking they fit, and having them do very well. Will Dissly is exhibit one for that this year. That means they may convert a linebacker or somebody like that into a running back.

Peterson hasn't lived up to his reputation as a play calling trickster as much lately. That's a shame. The trick plays were a hallmark of his teams at Boise State and made them worth paying attention to no matter what.
