NCAA Football 2022

Washington plays somebody this weekend. I probably ought to know who that is or give up my Seattle card. Except the Mariners are winning and I'm happily scoreboard watching. Football can wait. I'll start paying attention when the Ivies get going on September 17.

Looking forward to the big game of the evening - OSU v. ND. My satisfaction of seeing either team lose will be balanced by my disgust of seeing the other team win. :roflmao:
It's insane to me that ND is ranked 5th. New coach and QB. I like Freeman's attitude, but enthusiasm only gets you so far.

I have those feelings about USC. I'm sure @FilterFunk is a fine person, but just has one teensy weensy character flaw that becomes glaring on Saturdays in the fall. :D

I grew up just east of Columbus, so I like seeing The Ohio State win. Of course, the joke was that if you wanted to play football, you were a Buckeye. If you wanted to learn to read, you went to that school up north. It's not entirely accurate, but close enough back in the Woody Hayes era.

USC is the evil empire. It was the evil empire when I was a kid, and now that I have connections to Washington, they are still the evil empire. So, what happens? My kid went to USC to the music school there. Writing checks to USC was painful. He's not a fan, though. USC tore down the music school's rehearsal space building on campus to expand the football facilities. The music school got a new building off campus, but the priorities were pretty obvious to him.

OSU is a good school. Too many of their fans are obnoxious jerkweasels or downright psychopaths. Some of them are also my best friends.

Well, Colorado State lost to Michigan 51-7. I am somewhat comforted by the fact that Oregon lost to Georgia 49-3, so CSU lost by two points less! CSU was a 30-point underdog and Oregon was supposed to at have a decent shot at Georgia.

Washington State plays in a couple of hours, and their opponent is Idaho. I love the "Battle of the Palouse" but wish it were more competitive. Idaho hasn't been consistently competitive with WSU in 40+ years, but there have been a couple of upsets in the last couple of decades when the Cougs were really down. But it's pretty cool to play an opponent that lives 8 miles away.

I'm expecting good things from the Cougs this year. There will be settling-in issues with the new coaching staff, but as Cougs, we know that the flag will be on Gameday (officially 274 consecutive appearances this AM, actually around 280), the Palouse will be the center of people streaming back to the home of Coug Nation, and Martin Stadium will be singing with Andy Grammer at the start of every game.

I learned that Ohio was truly in the past about 20 years ago. I got a couple tickets to see Washington play Ohio State in the horseshoe. We were two purple dots in a sea of scarlet. The people around us razed us in a friendly and unthreatening way. I found myself rooting for the Huskies completely. The Buckeyes pasted them, though. It was a whole lot of fun, aside from being proof of having moved on. In other circumstances, I still root for the Buckeyes. And yes, Ohio State is an outstanding university in a number of ways.
