Some of you may know the ex-head coach Lincoln Riley abandoned the Sooners last year,
and took 40% of the players with him to USC.
I guess he didn't want to face the SEC when we move from the Big 12 next year.
I hate this move myself but I've been a lifelong Sooner fan and that's not going to change.
New head coach Brent Venables was an assistant defensive coach here in the past,
and we welcome him home with open arms.
Congrats to Brent on your 1st win as a head coach!!!...(OU 45 - UTEP 13)

That's pretty much how I feel about USC.
I hate the move from the Pac-12, but I'm a lifelong Trojans fan and that's not going to change, so I just have to deal with the other changes.
Lincoln couldn't have known about this move before he left OU.
I wonder what he feels about it.

I'm thinking the same thing...I don't think Lincoln knew in advance. It would be interesting to know how he feels about the move.
BTW, Oklahoma is my second-favorite college football team from way back. I remember those great running backs from the '70s - guys like Greg Pruitt, Joe Washington and Billy Sims. And I loved the way they ran the option. Those backfields were loaded!

Hahahaha! My 12-year Catholic school education has left me well prepared to enjoy this joke. I'm just surprised I haven't seen it before.

Purely self-indulgent post...
Glad to see my JMU Dukes kick off their first season at FBS in style with a 44-7 old-school a** whupping of Middle Tennessee. Looking forward to their first Sun Belt game and their Sun Belt future - will be great to see them revive some old-school rivalries from back in my playing days there (App State, GA Southern) and establish some in-family rivalries with my ODU, Marshall, and JMU-alumn siblings and nephews. While the recent flux in NCAA conferences is really bad for historic rivalries and the fans in general, it did open up a spot for JMU in one of the few FBS conferences that actually falls on regional lines and supports traditional rivalries. Too bad this had to happen less than a month before my wife and I relocate to Western Australia for the foreseeable future.
Also glad my departure for down under was delayed long enough to see my grad school alma mater Longhorns kick off their season the right way and prepare for the big showdown with Alabama next week. Quinn's got a promising future ahead of him, and if their very young OL can ramp up soon the O should be plenty potent this year. Not holding my breath for a win (though few things please me more than seeing 'Bama lose), but it looks like they'll be competitive and it will help set the stage for the rest of their Big-12 season.

I looked up from baseball long enough to see that Washington won, Washington State won, and Oregon got pasted. I don't care who the opponents were. It is the way things should be every weekend except the Apple Cup.

Florida State-LSU was a great game with a great ending...the Seminoles blocked an extra point with no time left to secure the win. And even though I've only seen the highlights, UNC-App. State was WILD!!!

Nebraska has a highly regarded recruit named (really) Decoldest Crawford. And someone found the perfect endorsement opportunity for him.
I didn't see the game, but 'Bama barely beat Texas 20-19. Which of course begs the question: Is Texas that good, or is 'Bama overrated? Or is this just a first-game anomaly?
So after today's game:
Is Texas way better than everyone thought?
Is Alabama not as good as everyone thought?
Was today's game just a fluke.
Keeping in mind that TU lost their starting QB in the 1st quarter and their backup is not considered to be very good.

Yep, Florida don't play no defense and haven't for years. Napier sure isn't going to change that. Shameful.

Responding to comments about 'Bama-UT (full disclosure: I'm a die-hard Longhorn, but will be as objective as possible)
It was a good amount of both. 'Bama is definitely a top-5 team, but they did not play that well - lots of stupid penalties (late hits, etc.) that really cost them and that are a clear sign of lack of discipline. UT has definitely improved - they came out swinging hard, the D completely shut down the Tide offence for the first 3 quarters, and IMO 'Bama's not used to getting punched in the mouth like that and they got way too skittish. UT could have easily won - there are 3-4 plays that could have gone the other way, any of which would have changed the outcome (and sorry... that was intentional grounding and they should have called a safety), and the big what-if is Quinn E. I don't want to put down Card - he's a legit vet who can win games, but Q. came out full speed and I believe it wouldn't have been close had they not taken a cheap shot on him. Sorry Crimson Tide, but it looks like the only way you can beat UT is by knocking the starting QB out early in the game.
It will be interesting to see how the season plays out for both... 'Bama should be as good as ever, but if they don't get more disciplined penalties are going to kill them. And, as much as I hate hearing it and refuse to get on the "Texas is Back!" bandwagon, UT is a legit team and they have a good chance to end up on top of the Big 12. As devastating as that loss was (few teams I despise more than 'Bama - I hope they never play the Sooners 'cos I won't know who I want to see lose more), the fact is they played the #1 team to essentially a draw and things look good for this year.

The bigger news is what about the Sun Belt! Three wins over Power 5 teams including #8 Notre Dame and #6 Texas A&M! Gonna be a tough year for my JMU Dukes - hate to say it, but I'm thinking a .500 season may be out of the picture at this point.

I'm a die hard Sooner. When we're both in the SEC. Which I suspect will be before 2025. I'm going to have the same problem wanting neither TU or Bama to win games between the two. But I've been doing that with TU and OSU for years so I'm used to it.

Honeymoon over. Good on Nebraska to pull the plug on something that's not working rather than holding on to memories and emotions and hoping they'd turn into wins today.

Well, we just fired our Head Coach (Nebraska) so it's kind of up in the air now but honestly couldn't be any worse than it has been...
Oh that's right... wasn't thinking about OU's upcoming move to the SEC along with UT. Looks like we'll both be playing 'Bama on a regular basis in the future. Let's both promise to root against 'Bama regardless of who's playing.
