...let wisconsin play usc in the rose bowl.......

won't happen, my friend. there is a BCS rule that only two teams from any BCS conference may play in a BCS bowl. it's not just a matter of available participants.

personally, i'd rather UM play USC in the rose bowl. the debate was whether UM or USC is the better "2nd best team". why don't they play and prove it?

i'm still thinking arkansas is going to pull this one out, and then michigan will be set! I hope that michigan can get in the nc gane and let wisconsin play usc in the rose bowl.......

I'm beginning to think Michigan fans are just gluttons for punishment. How many times do you guys have to lose before you admit that Tressel has your number?

I for one, hope that it doesn't happen because I'll have to cut my ears if I hear "best ever?" mentioned in the same sentence with this year's Ohio State team.

Well now it looks like it's going to come down to Florida or Michigan for the other spot in the MNC game. I certainly respect Michigan more than USC, but Florida still played (and beat) more ranked and bowl-eligible teams than Michigan.

And they were still behind Michigan in the BCS polls going into the game tonight. You can't ignore that Michigan's only loss was to the #1 team in the country at the end of the year.

i heard an interesting argument from a UM fan. he said that UM had the best game they possibly could against their archrival -- no turnovers on, three takeaways, good peformance from hart. and they still couldn't beat OSU, who had an average game -- no takeaways, three turnovers, gave up a touchdown on the first drive, but scored a lot of points.

he thinks that that, more than anything else, defines UM's eligibility for the national title game. in other words, even on a neutral field, if UM is anything remotely close to human, OSU will likely win bigger than they did on november 18.

it is an interesting theory.

personally, i think that UF has proven their worth by winning the SEC with only one close loss on the road. unfortunately, they beat an arkansas team who lost last week to claim the SEC title. some people think that somehow makes them less worthy. UM hasn't won their conference, though they certainly have a very valid claim to the second spot.

my brother, a student at OSU, wants to play UM again. he thinks they are clearly the second best team in the nation.

we shall see what the computers think. UM hasn't played in two weeks, and UF has won twice. they will certainly be at least third in both human polls, maybe second. while UM wasn't playing anyone, UF beat the number 8 team in the country to extend their record to 12-1. that's pretty tough.

because i'm sentimental, i also want UM in the rose bowl to play USC, a very good traditional match.

Actually even as a MI fan I would agree you can make a good argument for FL. Their is no question in my mind that MI is the number two team in the country. Both teams have beaten quality teams but MI destroyed quality teams in their own buildings, and their only loss was in the other guys house after an emotional event the day before. Wether or not Bo's lost effected the players is questionable, but their is no doubt in my mind it effected the coaches, many of whom were very close to Bo. I disagree with the assessment that MI played it's best game, against OH state, Mi gave up two uncharacteristically long runs from scrimmage and their defense was flatfooted for the entire first half. That being said MI could play their best game against OH state next time and still lose. But their are plenty of sports where the championship doesn't get decided in the final game. Their have been plenty of years where the two best teams played in a conference final prior to the Championship game or series.

I'm sticking with my original desire to see a different team get a shot at OSU, so I guess I'm voting for Florida at this point. Honestly, I'm not sure it's going to matter - in my eyes the national championship was already decided by the OSU/UM game. I really can't see either Florida or Michigan beating the Buckeyes.

Then again, that's why they play the games.

Wow, UCLA played some hard core football today. As bad as the Pac-10 has been this year, this was a classic rivalry game where the clear underdog walked on to the field with something to prove. I don't like anything about UCLA, so I was bummed to see USC lose. On the other hand...........

Despite Florida's less than dominating performance, this paves the way for them to get beat by Ohio State. The only way I see Florida winning is for them to play lockdown defense like they can play, and hope for a stellar performance in Chris Leaks last game. Hey, it isn't out of the question. Leak has had the pressure of winning a NC on his shoulders all year. Maybe this time he'll step up and take over.

i didn't know that, but it gives me even more reason to hate the bcs! its a shame that wisconsin and auburn are left out while notre dame gets a bcs berth.....

i guess the big ten will have to schedule their games to start a week later, since its obviously a bias against a team who is idle. its a shame to hear the resounding "michigan is still the #2 team in the country" a few weeks ago only to be bumped by everyone after a notre dame blowout by usc. i will agree that florida has a legitimate beef for #2; albeit helped by their coaches politicking :scowl:

if michigan would have beat ohio state would there be this argument for number 2 (especially if this years game was in ann arbor)? i think ohio state has been mystified into some kind of juggernaut this year and everyone would be calling for them to get another crack at the "undeserving" wolverines.....

if florida lost yesterday, who would be the next team deserving the nc game since michigan "already had their chance"?

you are correct. at least boise state will get its due.

i would like to believe that wouldn't be the case. i certainly wouldn't. i still think back to 1998 when my own spartans beat osu in the shoe. i still think an all-star team of fsu and tennessee wouldn't have beaten osu on most days. but they lost, and that was it.

i think florida is a legitimate 2nd team, but it's hard to feel good about either option, really. they're both good teams who have good reasons to be in the game and noticeable flaws in their schedules and performances.

How 'bout dem Gators!!! WooHoo!!!

They squeaked into the title game. I've said from the start the BCS is about when you lose, and Michigan lost most recently. The Gators deserve a shot a Ohio State.

I'll need some time to digest the matchups before I can come up with a plan for how the Gators can win. This game will be a tough one for Florida. At this point, I am worried the Gators will get their doors blown off by Troy and Ted.

I think the lesson of these past few weeks, as it seems to be every year, is that some sort of playoff system really needs to be created.

That being said, I think Florida should be in the NC game. They had the toughest schedule in the country according to won/loss records, and won their conference. And this is coming from a Georgia fan who can't stand the Gators. But IMO, they earned a shot at the Ohio State.

Michigan is a great team, perhaps the second best in the country, but they didn't even win their conference, and already had their shot. Maybe the Big 10 needs a title game to clear things up for the national picture?

Imagine the stink they would be raising in Oklahoma had they not been cheated out of their victory over Oregon.

Gotta figure out some sort of playoff. This foolishness happens every year, with some legitimate team not being able to make their case on the field. Remember in 2004 when Auburn, who was undefeated, was left out of the picture?

Both of my nephews are FSU grads, & my brother is a Tennesee grad. They all live in the Naples, FL area. Needless to say, they HATE HATE HATE everything about the Florida Gators. Previously, I had been receiving hate emails about how OSU doesnt deserve a top ranked FB AND BB team.

Suddenly, we all share a common goal! I'm really looking forward to this match up. Apparently, the pollsters agree. Personally, I dont care if its the Miami Dolphins... just bring it!

Right on. I care by the way. I watched the highlights of that game. I hope you guys whip the "old ball coach" Spurrier!!

-Mike

Cheers for the good vibes my man. South Carolina is a worthy opponent for a school of our caliber, so I'm pleased with the matchup.

But it does show how weak the C-USA is...we claw all the way to the top only to face a team in the middle of the SEC pack. Goes to show how tough the SEC is as well. The 2nd place team (So. Miss) gets to face.....Ohio. Come on, seriously? That'd be dissappointing if we had to play them.

I can't stand ol' Spurrier, but he's a heck of a coach.

Y'all better strap it on tight -- South Carolina is a good team.
