i heard an interesting argument from a UM fan. he said that UM had the best game they possibly could against their archrival -- no turnovers on, three takeaways, good peformance from hart. and they still couldn't beat OSU, who had an average game -- no takeaways, three turnovers, gave up a touchdown on the first drive, but scored a lot of points.
he thinks that that, more than anything else, defines UM's eligibility for the national title game. in other words, even on a neutral field, if UM is anything remotely close to human, OSU will likely win bigger than they did on november 18.
it is an interesting theory.
personally, i think that UF has proven their worth by winning the SEC with only one close loss on the road. unfortunately, they beat an arkansas team who lost last week to claim the SEC title. some people think that somehow makes them less worthy. UM hasn't won their conference, though they certainly have a very valid claim to the second spot.
my brother, a student at OSU, wants to play UM again. he thinks they are clearly the second best team in the nation.
we shall see what the computers think. UM hasn't played in two weeks, and UF has won twice. they will certainly be at least third in both human polls, maybe second. while UM wasn't playing anyone, UF beat the number 8 team in the country to extend their record to 12-1. that's pretty tough.
because i'm sentimental, i also want UM in the rose bowl to play USC, a very good traditional match.
