NCAA Football

As far as MI rivalries, MI STILL has the best winning percentage of ANY major college football program and they do it without paying players like the University of Spoiled Children. USC may not be able to play in a national championship game after yesterdays revelations. Looking at the recent National Champs, is it possible to win one without cheating?

Burk,

I'm cut to the quick!

I was around campus after 'SCs last go 'round of NCAA violations, and had to wait a long, long time for the team to get back. While not condoning pay to play, it sure seems that the way the rules are written, a perceived infraction could lead to trouble if the digging continues long enough. Anyway, as Hendrix used to say "Blah, blah, woof, woof".

Tennessee and Auburn look scary.

Dog gone those LSU Tigers! What a great game though. JaMarcus Russell isn't quite the dominant QB I thought he was though.

It looks like I'll have to rely on Florida to bring down the mighty War Eagle on October 14th. That game against Tennessee was a good one.

burk.....leave Penn State out of the ND discussion!! They are a young team that had a bad day last week. They'll beat Michigan. :D

if percy harvin didn't leave the game in the first quarter, it wouldn't have been as close, i think.

as far as tennessee looking "scary"...

besides the field goals and the passing, everything else didn't seem very impressive.

something's up if a defense gives up 100 yards to one of our backs. :D

they piled up a lot of wins in the 1869 - 1920 days when many schools didn't even have teams. they are second to notre dame since 1920 (ohio state is third), and if you take it from 1950, michigan is 6th. (oklahoma is first and ohio state is second.)

ND was overrated. UM is overrated. ND's win over PSU says that PSU is in for another long year.

GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I'm pickin' 'em to play up to their level this season, and win the SEC West for sure, probably win the SEC again as well, and I won't be changing that quote at the end of the season - like Mike, if I'm wrong, I'll eat crow at the end of the season, like a man! :p )

Eat it, Gard. :D

west virginia is pretty awesome. usf played them the last game of the season of my brother's last semester of undergrad.

it wasn't pretty. :bawl:

(this was the same season usf killed louisville, mind you.)

I remember the season youre talking about.

They play USF the last game of the season up in Morgantown this year. I cant wait for that one, hopefully they'll shut my USF friends up. :p :)

It was a great weekend for football, other than the way Oklahoma was robbed by horrific officiating in their "loss" to Oregon.

Personally, I could care less about either team, but I can't stand bad officiating, especially when the official takes a time out and go stand and watch the replay, then STILL makes the wrong call.

Heck, even Oregon alum Dan Fouts (who was calling the game) was upset that the officials had blown it so badly.

Then, to top it off, they did it AGAIN. Another key call, replay showed it was obviously wrong, and the official went and watched the replay, then announced that the call would stand. Say wha?

I'm sure there are some folks in Oklahoma who need a new TV after throwing some things through their screens.

I'm not sure what would consistute "conclusive video evidence" to the officials.

Other than that, some great football. A couple of GREAT SEC games. :)

I agree.

I may be the only one who cares about this particular play from the Florida game, but there was a play in the third quarter where a Florida defender nearly had a sack on the Tennessee QB Ainge in the end zone. Ainge flung the ball toward the line of scrimmage to avoid the sack and safety, but the ref said it was a legit attempt at a pass. The nearest UT defender was 10+ yards away from where the ball landed after it bounced. Florida won the game, but the call made me mad anyway.

there were a couple of bad calls in that game. the one punt return should've been left as a touchdown. the following play, where chris leak threw an interception that got returned for a TD, was overturned as a make-up.

florida is in the top 5! :hyper:

i only caught the very end of the oregon/oklahoma game, but it definitely did appear that the on-side kick wasn't legitimate.

I saw that. If that wasn't intentional grounding, I don't know what was. Last I checked, an offensive lineman was not an eligible receiver.

So far, replay has been a bit of a bust. If you're going to watch the replay, at least have the guts to admit when you blew the call and change it. That's pretty much what it's there for. :spit:

There was a horrible call in the LSU/Auburn game that may have changed the outcome as well. Too bad the officials didn't perform as well as the players in the SEC games. If you are refering to the pass interference call towards the end of the Auburn game you need to watch that replay a few more times. The ball was uncatchable and the small contact the DB put on the receiver would have been ticky tacky. The correct call was made.

I was actually referring to a pass interference call earlier in the game, but there was probably enough time left for things to sort themselves out.

Edit: In fact, the call in question may have actually helped LSU. It's been a little while, so I don't recall. You're right about the pass interference call at the end of the game, though. They got that one right.

Well, considering we get to toss out the historical perpective of the team's history and look at it however we see fit so long as the stats reflect our point of view.....I'd like to point out that since September 2nd, 2006, Michigan's winning percentage is 100% and Notre Dame's is not. Hooray!!!!:hmm:

Ya know Gard, I put my neck out on the line for your boys from Baton Rouge on Saturday in a room full of Auburn grads. I went on and on about how great Russell is. Your Tigers made me look bad.

I'll be looking for some serious revenge in three weeks when your Tigers come to The Swamp. In the meantime, check out a UF game if you want to see a real QB with real WR's to throw to. :D
