NCAA Football

I'm a huge Buckeye fan, and normally I'm rooting for Ohio State, and whoever is playing Michigan. But not this year. I'd love to see them go head to head as #1 & #2. And there's still a chance that if they do, they could also face off for the National Championship. How great would that be? Two chances to beat Michigan in one year :hyper:

Um... no, there is absolutely no chance that they will play in the National Championship. You will see them go head to head as #1 and #2, in their final game of the season.

A loss for either team will take them out of the NC running.

you're saying that in the following hypothetical situation, UM would not have a chance to play for the national title?

arkansas wins the SEC championship and finishes with one loss, meaning florida has two losses, and tennessee is the lone one-loss SEC east team.

cal loses to UCLA and beats USC, who beats ND. all have two losses.

WVU loses to louisville and beats rutgers, who beats louisville. all three teams then have one loss.

we can assume the ACC doesn't really figure in the national title picture any more that boise state does. so that leaves us the big 12. say nebraska beats texas for the big 12 title.

are you saying that in all of these very possible (if not entirely probable) scenarios, UM has absolutely no chance of playing OSU for the title? if OU can lose the big 12 title and still play in the championship, how can this not happen?

now, let's assume texas wins the big 12. if UM loses to OSU, but loses close, and looks really good doing it, you think the fact that their single loss comes in the final game of the season against the number 1 team in nation trumps texas' bad loss at home to the same team in week 2?

that's foolish.

Yes I do think it trumps it. Because that week 2 team is very different from the team that showed it's guts against Nebraska. That, and you are forgetting Auburn. :D

1. nearly losing to nebraska, even in the snow at nebraska, to me speaks much more than the "guts" it took to win. what do i know about that, though? i'm a michigan state guy.

2. i didn't forget about auburn, i simply didn't explicitly state "assume arkansas and auburn win out". it means auburn won't play in the SEC championship, and therefore really shouldn't be talked about in the national title picture. auburn's a good team, but remember i'm not talking about what i think *should* or *will* happen, but rather a reasonably possible scenario in which UM could and should play for the national title after losing at OSU.

Ok, I rescind my prior comment and say, it is no impossible for Michigan and OSU to play twice; just highly unlikely.

We cool yo.

yeah, i agree.

it'd be crazy not to. personally, i'd like to see florida play for the title. i could see auburn getting there, but i think texas would have to lose for that to happen. i also assume that arkansas would lose and auburn would beat florida in the title game for that to happen.

the beauty of all these scenarios is that nothing is a given. louisville winning last night should be proof of that.

louisville really took care of business tonight. maaaan.

Did either teams' defense show up? Holy Crap! That was one of the sloppiest games by two unbeatens I've seen in a long time. After watching that I feel better about thinking that neither one of those teams could keep up with Ohio State or Michigan.

Bucky over Nitanny Lions and now 9-1. Hope Jo-pa is OK.

YAY for the Gators. But beating Vandy is nothing to really brag about, especially when it was close. The worst part is a close win over Vandy will hurt the Gators BCS standings.

GARD.......THANK YOU to you and your LSU Tigers for hanging that loss on UT in Knoxville. That made my day. :D

Overall, I was sad to see Penn State drop another game. I wasn't expecting much, but I did think they would win.
