NCAA Football

sadly, this is true. at least we can hope UM loses to PSU. of course, that doesn't change the challenge OSU faces in the shoe in a month. i can't wait for this game.

i have to come clean to someone. most years, my hate for UM is so intense, i don't even want them to win their bowl game. i know it is good for the conference, but i just don't like to see them win at all. however, this year's team is such a good team, it's hard not to want success for them. have i turned the corner, or am i broken by another severely disappointing MSU football season?

My Tigers seemed to think they were just going to waltz into College Station and roll up A&M. Yeah, right. A&M gave Tech all they wanted a couple of weeks ago, and if not for the early turnovers, Mizzou could easily have lost to Tech last week.

So, yeah, I think they went in overconfident and got handed a big ol' L.

Now to see if they stay true to historical form, and completely fall apart for the rest of the season. :spit:

what a disappointment for florida. it looks like we left our defense back in gainesville; we let auburn have possession for over ten more minutes than we had it. that's just inexcusible.

that said, the defense only let up three field goals, but we made too many mistakes on special teams and offense. a fumbled punt--inexcusible. an interception on the first down of what should have been a critical drive late in the fourth--inexcusible. the "fumble" call was pretty close and could have gone either way, but it shouldn't have mattered.

we were simply outplayed in the second half, and that should have never happened.

fwiw, here are my top teams of this season:

ohio state
university of michigan
west virginia
auburn
florida
tennessee
arkansas
university of california
university of texas

no particular order, there; just a list. notice the omission of southern cal--they just aren't that good this year. they could very well go 0-3 against oregon, cal, and notre dame. (notre dame isn't up there, either, because of not being able to hang with michigan and nearly losing to GA tech and michigan state.)

i also think west virginia will take louisville.

also, as far as i'm concerned, there are only two teams in the big 10 and four teams in the SEC.

OUCH! That Gator loss hurt me bad. They had it coming though with the way they played in the second half. Every time I get my hopes up for Chris Leak, he goes and does something to make me want to choke him. That INT was nuts.

I'm not so sure I would dismiss USC. They are winning close games, which is a sign of a good team. Put aside all the "they should beat lesser teams" talk for a moment and realize they are winning tough games. Yeah, the games they are winning don't look tough to you guys out East, just like an Auburn and Arkansas game looks to be a walk in the park for Auburn to these guys out West.

with the gators on bye, today's big game for me was washington vs. cal. (my mom works for UW's foundations office.)

what a game that was! even with dub's qb throwing four ints in regulation, the game came down to OT, where, you guessed it, the qb threw an int to end the game. ah well. the huskies definitely exceeded expectations today, even if they couldn't close the deal.

there were some other close ones, too: nebraska vs. texas (watched a lot of it; glad nebraska lost--hurt usc's inflated strength of schedule a bit), tennessee vs. bama (glad tenn one to help UF's strength of schedule), and notre dame vs. ucla (wanted to see notre dame lose, as always).

and illinois hung in there with penn state for a while, not to mention MSU's come-from behind victory over northwestern and georgia's victory of the other MSU.

pretty good day of football, despite the absence of florida. :p

I had a feeling USC wasn't going to win out the way they've been playing, now the national championship game is going to be all about politics:crying: . i look forward to a small playoff, maybe this year will be more fuel on the fire to get it in place. i only hope that if the michigan/ohio state game is real close the loser will at least be *considered* to stay i the top two......

So far, so good for my football weekend. I was SO glad to see Florida put away UGA in the worlds largest cocktail party. BTW, I don't care what the UF and UGA AD's say, I have been to one of those games, and it is a HUGE cocktail party.

Penn State keeps chugging along, winning games they should. WooHoo!!

As far as the national title, if OSU beats Michigan, USC will have the inside track between them and Michigan since their loss was earlier in the season. Personally, I'd like to see the SEC winner take on the OSU and Michigan winner if they both win out after they play each other. I feel that the Big 10 and SEC are the best conferences in the country.

Oh well, It had to happen eventually. Everybody looked past OS and thought the loss would come from Cal or ND. Really sloppy game on both sides!

I'm spoiled. 3 losses in as many years,

i'm not surprised at usc's loss at all. i called my dad to gloat. :D (he's such a big usc fan that he watched them play arizona state over watching florida and auburn two weeks ago.)

i wasn't happy about the way florida played, outside of the opening drive. our offense was just really sloppy after that. and what's with percy harvin being an up-the-gut running back now? that's wynn's job, man. keep harvin running to the outside, when the defense least expects it. sloppy play calling.

as for the national title, no matter what it actually will be, it SHOULD be the osu/michigan winner (i think osu will win) vs. west virginia, assuming they stay undefeated. sure, the sec is a tougher conference than the big east, and maybe a one loss big 12 team deserves respect, too, but i really think that west virginia is the number two team in the land.

i'm just hoping for a florida appearance in the sugar bowl.

west virginia is a very good team, and if they are undefeated, they should be in the championship game.

i think OSU's win over USC makes boise state look that much better. sure it was on the smurf turf, but boise state handled OSU. they looked JV compared to boise state.

that's kind of my way of saying that boise state should be in a BCS bowl game against a good team or notre dame. that would be a very fun game to watch.

its still 17 days out, but still....
i think he's the keystone to michigan's chances against ohio state; michigan's defense is up to the challenge, but their offense has me worried these last few weeks, i think they will have to put up quite a few points to beat the buckeyes.....
