NCAA Week 8

The BCS computers look at much more than margin of victory. All types of stats are consumed.
Which is why I mentioned quality of opponents as well--that's what a lot of the numbers those computers are crunching are supposed to determine.
Looking at that list, only the LSU game looks impressive. All the other wins for either team are fairly ho-hum.
OK, you're starting to come around to my way of thinking.;) But look closer instead of generalizing.

Beating Hawaii by 46 or Youngstown State by 43 and Ohio by 12? (They haven't played the same number of games thus far.) Slight edge to UF.

Miami by 23 or Troy by 18? Troy lost by 31 to OK State. Edge: Florida.

Tenn by 24 or Minny by 13? Tenn is weak in the SEC, but Minn has beaten four scrubs, Indiana and the Zookers, and the latter two were both close. Slight edge to OSU.

Ark by 31 or Wisconsin by 3? The Badgers look as bad as Ark. Edge: UF.

LSU by 30 or MSU by 38? We agree on this one, Florida.
Florida has every chance in the world to do some big things going forward. OSU has to play Penn State, and then that's it for them competition-wise. If Florida can pull of a decisive win against Georgia, then things will change drastically for them. They'll shoot up in all the polls, and the BCS will reflect a bit of that. If they turn the ball over a few times and barely win, it might not change to much.
Unless UGA screws us up by blowing a game or two to someone else along the way, which I think they've done before.

Am I getting a bit worked up about this? Hey, I'd be calmer if my team blew a game they shouldn't have and was in the top 5, like USC. Heck, I'd be happy with 7th. I'm not saying we can't climb out of this. But it's going to be harder than it should be.

USC is going to get the media love. They're a good team, but they'll get praised for being the best 1-loss team out there even though they won't play anyone of note to prove it. They could easily lose to Florida, LSU or Georgia on any given Saturday, or even some of the lesser teams. I totally agree with you. But at least Florida has a chance to win the rest of their games, along with an SEC championship. If they can win those games by 10 points or more, then it'll make a strong statement about their strength and they'll leapfrog USC easy, putting them in Miami in January. I don't think it'll be a struggle for them at all, even if some of those games are close. Be the SEC champ, and you'll be in Miami. The only caveat is if we have a 2 loss SEC champ, which I doubt will make it to Miami in that case. But it doesn't appear at this point that this will happen.

If USC keeps shutting out opponents, it will be hard for any one-loss team to pass them.

To assume the SEC champ gets an automatic bid is fanboy-ism. Don't be surprised if a one-loss Big 12 champ gets the nod.

I'm for UCLA and any team that's playing against USC.

My second favorite team is Boise State, great coaching and always entertaining.

If it comes down to one-loss teams, it'll be an SEC team.

UNLESS....

Bama gets there undefeated, then perhaps a non-SEC team will make it to Miami.
