Neck dive... why is it a problem?

Didn't say that.. but alright. You're just coming off as another salty internet expert whose opinion is the only correct one so I'll just leave you to yourself

Edit: half this thread's metaphorical vagina is filled with sand because people think the "neck dive issue" is overblown and that's hilarious
There is a new band name in that thar post.

To each their own.
AFAIC any nuisance of mild to moderate neck dive is more than outweighed by the "cool" factor of a quirky body style.

If some folks want to treat one ounce of pivot pressure as an absolute deal killer, that's fine; more awesome-looking axes for me!
:bassist::hyper:

It all depends how bad the dive is.
A bad one will pull your wide strap with the shirt and still dive bad.
If the bass dives beyond horizontal its unusable imo.
I have a gibson sg with a minor dive but lately it irritates me including when playing sitting down, ultralite machines are on the way.

There are no harmful effects of neck dive. It is simply preference. I won't put up with it because I don't have to.

Sort of like playing high end basses or only drinking French press coffee. Some people are more in tune with details that others don't even notice.

IMO/IME:
- most players who tolerate what i'd call "neck dive" don't even know they're holding up the neck (i.e., define "bliss"). :D
- most players who tolerate what i'd call "neck dive," and who know that they're holding up the neck, are stuck. :wideyed:

Can a divey neck throw your back out, or something crazy like that?
wild and "crazy" = whatever you can play "masterfully" with neck dive, the other cat, with no better chops than you: can play better, without it! ;)

Spend $200 to save 2 ounces at the headstock?
i've done it! (~$185-$190?) TBH, i don't know how much the headstock "saved" as i went about it caveman-style: i put CF tuning machines on the ax and the problem was solved. but it was a way to eliminate dive on an ax with a very lightweight body and still use my go-to strap(s)...and, so i wouldn't have to change my postures/techniques/etc. still, i spent ~$3k+ less on that ax than the :wacky: who pays for a deluxe or custom ax with neck dive!

Neck dive is just a sign of crappy design and engineering. I choose not to support builders who can't figure out how to make a balanced bass.

Absolutely! It's not difficult to decide where the centre of gravity should be and design a shape that puts it there. In aviation design we do it all the time - the COG of every part is known and indicated on the drawings. With a bass guitar 'anywhere between the strap pins' is probably good enough - that's a pretty big target!
