Need a "hippie" bass... suggestions?

Alright, here's what you need to do.

Find a bass or bass body made with bamboo or some fast growing wood. Hardwood= destroying the environment. Make your own pickups, and use whatever neck you can find. You see, you want to go green, and hippies like green.

Paint the thing in some wild acid-trip color. Tye-dye works (like those two Stingrays and ATK earlier in the thread). Put a white pearloid pickguard on it (or clear pickguard). Just go crazy with the paint.

Put a flower decal on the headstock. Hippies like flowers, right? Either that, or some kind of anti-war/anti-poverty/world peace message. Maybe incorporate that into the paint.

Have some way to burn incense. Incense= way cool psychedelic 60s.

The standard Fender Jazz was very popular with the 60s bass players who could afford one. Harmony, Teisco, and various cheapos were popular because they were cheap, and they did the job. The sound of your amp will make a big difference in getting the vintage sound of the 60s. Stick with an old Ampeg, or Fender, amps like GKs will sound too clean. If you want to go modern, Orange and Mesa make some great amps with the old school sound.

I've been asked to play in a 60's - 70's hippie-type band (ala Cream, Yardbirds, Hendrix, Zombies) kinda "acid rock". The thing is that the band wants to really get the "psychodelic" vibe, and I only have mostly modern type basses... so, I need some suggestions - cheaper is better - definitely no more than $700, 4 string, fretted.
Another thought is to modify my Squier Jazz with some interesting graphics. Any suggestions?

Alembic....second hand :-)
