Need Help Identifying Yamaha..

So bought this Yamaha bass used. Everything is in good shape. Zero neck dive. Fairly light in weight.

Swore I wasn't going to get another longscale but I like the tone in the upper registers on a lot of longscales.

Says N89 on the back of the bass.
Serial number is HIL283233

Passive bass.

Came with flats on it. I'm guessing D'addario Chromes going by ball ends. Am I wrong? Blue silk both ends.

Never heard of "N89".

Pretty nice tone though.

Got any idea when it was made..and...China?..Indonesia?..Elsewhere? Not much info stamped anywhere on the bass except serial number.

I've been noodling/playing for a couple of hours now with it.

For a 'longy" it sure feels good in my hands.

Played it through my GkMB112ii with the extra powered cab...bass going through an Eden WTDI.

I use the EDEN WTDI a lot because the room I play in requires bass/amp tweaking to get a nice tone.

Nut width is 1.62" I believe. Very comfortable to play.

I've never had a Yamaha bass before but I also would recommend this bass to anyone starting out that likes a longscale.

I know. I had to check the tag after I first played it as it felt short to mid scale. Enjoy!

Yamaha gets ergonomics right, whatever you think of their sound. Consistently comfy instruments.

That's a pretty nice bass. I have the rbx270 whic is essentially the same with an alder body. The lightest bass I have with no neck dive. I'm thinking of converting it to a tenor bass. Rock.

Yes..it's very comfortable...to wear with a strap and to play.
They're not that much money....so if one decided to go to better pups ( not that there's anything wrong with the stock ones) they'd have a really good bass for the small investment.

Don't know how I missed this bass in all my store visits. Probably because all the popular emphasis is on Fender, Squier and Ibanez.

The 1.62" neck on this bass plays much nicer for me than than 1.5" necks.
