but what mighta caused this. I was using 2 212T's w/GBE 750 amp, the cabs were on thier sides atop one another. Well only 1 speakon speaker cable would work so I had to use it from amp to top cab, used an old but in very good shape 1/4" to 1/4" cable from top cab to bottom cab. Later into the gig twice in mid-tune I noticed lower volume. Looked in back of rig and the 1/4" cable had slipped out of the top cab input, WOW! twice? Could the lows I was pushing cause the 1/4" cable to gradually slide out of the input? I just shoved it back in, lowered the master abit and went back to work.
Now 2 other times this same nite, the whole rig went silent in mid tune, not just one cab, I reached back and sorta fiddled with the speakon into amp and I got sound again, went back at it. Finished the nite with no more drama.
I know you'd say bad cable(s), change em out and Im going to, got 2 on order from Butch. But if I have to use the 1/4" cable again in the interim, should I just use duct tape to keep them from sliding out of the cab inputs? And Ive opened both speakon-speakon speaker cables to look at em, they both look fine. They're connected +1-1 on all 4 ends, there are no breaks in the cable itself. Where else do speakon cables fail? Wow could it be the amp or cab inputs themselves that could be bad, worn, something? The amp I bought used from a TBer, he hardly would return my PM's during sale, so I doubt I could get hold of him to ask tech questions. Both cabs were bought new. Might the lows I was driving also drive the 1/4" jack out of the cab, its really rather funny to me if thats so.
Any ideas whats up here? When my new speakon speaker cables arrive I'll use those. But in the meantime Im gonna use my GK1001RBI amp w/XB-2 cab at Thursday nites gig, w/ a single 1/4" cable from amp to cab. Hope my new cables arrive before gigs on Memorial weekend.
