Agreed. But, if the OP needs this particular amp and wants options for both medium and large gigs; then to me the right way to look at the whole thing is that ~$250 +/- on a used Crest ProLite 2.0 and we aren’t even having this conversation. In fact, for my purposes, whatever amp, two 4 ohm cabs and a power amp for big gigs with both cabs is the right technical / modular way to go. Running amps at 2 ohms for big gigs is a fine idea; but, why stress the amp when power amps are so inexpensive anyhow?

Seriously. From just a practical standpoint, what’s the OP going to do now? Flip the cabs? Pretty sure he’s going to waste more than $250 right there. Adding the power amp makes it a way more practical rig than any other solution. Making stupid decisions just based on principle is still stupid.
That would certainly work. And the only way to separate the two pre-amps, get them amplified and out to the cabs. The effects loop is single channel, but DI out is both. Might be pretty sweet. Maybe he can try that with his new cabs.
 
Then why do the outputs from the box connect to his cables? Only the input is a problem.
Likely the box has one 2NL jack and the other two are 4NL. Plus if the issue was the screw, Jorg would have hit the same issue, but Jorg said he tested it and it worked fine--which I believe.

Either way it's kind of mute, crap workmanship.

No, what is mind boggling is that some on here are either not reading, mis-reading, or choosing to discount Jorg’s explanation. Here it is, in case you didn’t see it.

The main issue, my $0.019, is that the two stories don’t line up. Which means one of the two parties is misrepresenting what happened. Guess each of us is free to decide whatever they choose.

If you like conspiracy theories, you may choose one side. Others of us familiar with builders who have been active on TB for a long time now, may choose the other.

If these emails have been altered and/or are untruthful, Jorg needs to say so.

Assuming the emails are complete and unedited it doesn't seem like good communication or timely service on the builder's part. You can knock the OP for not knowing everything but he's asking a trustworthy expert so what's wrong with that?

Knowing the user might add a second cab, that the amp is 4 ohm min and, as has been noted in this thread, has plenty of power at 8 ohms I see no reason to recommend a 4 ohm cab in the first place. If that is the recommendation, it should be clear what the final load of the combined cabs will be and that the amps full 1000 watts won't be available. Note the use of the word "converter", not serial. Why not be clear?

Again, "converter" not serial. No explanation of combined impedance and amp power reduction.

Box doesn't arrive with cab making second cab temporarily useless.

OP specifically asks if it will be a 4 ohm total load. Builder says yes but appears to be answering a different question, that of whether it is safe or not. Again, no clear explanation of what the box does and how it will affect combined impedance and amp power.

Over a month between these.

Still waiting a week later.

Just leaves him hanging. Why not recommend another serial box from a different supplier at this point?

I find it odd that every single person has ignored my post. It relates to a claim that Schroeder was releasing a box to run 2 4 ohm cabs at 4 ohms. The poster was asked a number of times whether it was a series box or whether it was a resistive load or whether it was a dual voice coil cabinet and replied no to all. It was to run a 4 ohm amp at 4 ohms with 2 x 4 ohm cabinets. I think this adds some credence to the OP's belief that he was getting just that and not a series box. None of this is in stone since I was not witness to the conversation but it is rather curious if you ask me

It seems that what he offered was subtly different from what the original post mentioned:

What I read is, it will allow you to use two 4 ohm cabinets on an amp that can operate at a minimum 4 ohm load.

Then I read between the lines and I'd have to think, this box wires both cabinets in Series, and that makes the load on the amp 8 ohms and well withing the operating parameter of the amplifier. (4ohm and 4ohm in series equals 8 ohms).

And I don't think Jorg is using dual coil drivers. Epifani is doing that on some cabs, but Schroeder has never announced they are doing that.

And there is a crossover to deal with in the cabinet, and it is set up as a 4 ohm crossover or an 8 ohm crossover.

Hard for me to understand how you can build a box that will allow two 4 ohm cabinets together and present a 4 ohm load on the amp. Unless there is some mighty big wattage resistors utilized to pad the load. And it would take a butt-load of resistors to do that properly and it is likely frequency response would be effected.

Just sell the two cabinets, be done with it, and stop all the whining.

Or go buy a Crown XLS 1500 or 2000 power amp, and hook up what you want any way you want.

The interference might well depend on the version of speakon used. Jorg did not say he tested THAT box, or as much as looked at it.

The box was built with dusty old scrap bin parts. I wouldn't put my name on it. Does it matter why two of three connectors work? That's why you might be right, two different types of connectors. I trust the OP can operate a speakon, since he got the other two connectors to work.

Everyone has lost this battle, except for those of us, like me, who have used it for entertainment purposes only.

any transformer in practice will waste power cause there is no real transformer which could transfom power with 100% efficience

Knock off the nitpicking, OK? It would work fine, with single digit losses for a good part (most transformers are rated 95 to 98.5% efficient), unlike the massive losses of the prior suggestion of using resistors. Transformers work in tube amps, 70v line systems, and power distribution, etc. With a good part, it would work here as well - just not cheap or light weight.

But why use a heavy and expensive transformer when you can use a sleeker, lighter, and much more effective series box?
