Never Ordering a Schroeder Cab Again

I find it odd that every single person has ignored my post. It relates to a claim that Schroeder was releasing a box to run 2 4 ohm cabs at 4 ohms.

It seems that what he offered was subtly different from what the original post mentioned:

Jorg then told me that he had developed a box that would enable me to utilize both 4 ohm cabs with an amp that could only handle a minimum 4ohm load, and that the box had been thoroughly tested and was trustworthy.

I think it's a two channel pre-amp and the two get mixed down before a single channel output with 2 jacks/4 Ohm minimum. If it were really a full two channel power amp section, one four ohm on each side would be it, no box, no problems. Long ago amps with two channels had an 8 Ohm min. per channel, but I'm not aware of any moderns amps made this way. From what I see in the manual (didn't read the whole thing), you have full range out of either output jack which are parallel to each other.

HPF dUg traditionally used graphic EQ to eliminate all frequencies under 700 Hz. This High Pass Filter, calibrated at a standard -3dB drop, yields dUg’s preferred setting at around 1200 Hz.

LPF Low Pass Filter, corner frequency drop -3dB. For dUg, the preferred LPF setting is between 200-400 Hz. Note: When solely in the Bottom channel, LPF is bypassed.

Speakon® Speaker Outputs Wired in parallel. Total load: Min. 4Ω, 1000W RMS. These high quality locking plugs ensure maximum power transfer and provide secure connections. Reminder, speaker cabinets must be rated: 1000 watts RMS minimum, @ 4Ω 600 watts RMS minimum, @ 8Ω 300 watts RMS minimum, @ 16Ω

re: Invalid Link Removed

Interesting amp. To me not worth the price of admission. I'd go for a D800+ if I were to spend that much on one amp. 2 Ohm stable, plays clean or dirty, 5 year warranty, and very well received.
Agreed. But, if the OP needs this particular amp and wants options for both medium and large gigs; then to me the right way to look at the whole thing is that ~$250 +/- on a used Crest ProLite 2.0 and we aren’t even having this conversation. In fact, for my purposes, whatever amp, two 4 ohm cabs and a power amp for big gigs with both cabs is the right technical / modular way to go. Running amps at 2 ohms for big gigs is a fine idea; but, why stress the amp when power amps are so inexpensive anyhow?

Seriously. From just a practical standpoint, what’s the OP going to do now? Flip the cabs? Pretty sure he’s going to waste more than $250 right there. Adding the power amp makes it a way more practical rig than any other solution. Making stupid decisions just based on principle is still stupid.

Or he could just try the darn box and see if he likes it.

Agreed on all counts. It's just too fuzzy to drag a guy through the mud.
That's really all I want people to understand.

If everyone would read through the relevant posts and take a minute to really process all the info, would anyone be justified in "Never purchasing a Schroeder Cabinet ever again"???

I Think Not!
I you are referring to the thread title, its, " Never ORDERING a Schroeder...… This was pointed out to me earlier when I also used the word " purchasing ". One of the more golden moments of this thread.

Sure; but that was already litigated and is apparently a non-starter.

If one takes a step back from the two “sides,” and looks for path forward; you either finish complaining about Jorg and sell the cabinets, or get a better amplification strategy. My only point is that better amplification strategy is more cost effective, and doesn’t require giving up this holy grail preamp. And, by doing that, OP ends up in a better place anyhow.

But, whatever.

Ooookay… sigh… I promised myself I’d walk away from this mess, but, I guess I’m really in it at this point.

Let me continue to clarify; the ONLY reason this post exists is because Jorg/Schroeder made a particular product recommendation, and then didn’t follow through. End of story. Now, let me pause here, and set up the backdrop. Like many of you, I’m a SUPER busy guy. I run my own company, I play in a busy band, and I am a single father of a three year old. I buy a LOT of gear (too much), and I often shop with boutique dealers. Why? Well, I suppose I tend to be an “off the beaten path” kind of person, but, I also gravitate toward the, typically, better customer service and greater knowledge-base that often comes with dealing with small, boutique shops.

So! When I am working through choosing gear with one of the many boutique dealers I have done business with, I OFTEN rely on their experience, expertise, and opinions. I don’t have time to sit and research everything they are suggesting to me, and, after 40 years playing bass, I can honestly say that I have had very little problem with any of the dealers I have done business with (in spite of the fact that a number of you are convinced this particular situation is primarily a result of my personal ignorance, or naivety).

When a boutique dealer makes a recommendation to me, in light of the fact that I choose guys who have good reputations, I take that recommendation seriously. I often don’t have the time or energy to rummage through the internet and verify everything they are telling me. Is that fault on my end? Ya, probably, to some degree. There have been many times a small dealer with a good reputation tells me, “I think you should do such and such, based on my experience”, and I’ll roll with it. Typically works out, just fine.

Now, in THIS particular situation, the problem isn’t that I took Jorg’s recommendation (as many of you are trying to make the focus of your conclusion). The problem is twofold; Jorg really didn’t have the knowledge base to guide me through the recommendations he made, AND, Jorg wasn’t willing to communicate with me after the sale to ensure that I could get the rig up and running as he suggested. It’s really as simple as that. It’s not NEARLY as complicated as many of you are making it out to be. Read the emails. I should NEVER have had to chase Jorg down for that box, and I should NEVER have had to beg him for information on the cables I needed to put the rig together. INFORMATION THAT, TO THIS VERY DAY HAS NEVER BEEN PROVIDED BY HIM (and, yet once again, other than a photo of a generic speakon cable laying on a table, stating, “you need one of these.”)

Read the emails. Do I sound as if I’m lacking in my communication skills, in the emails? Do I come across as annoying? OR, do I simply sound like a guy who paid a lot of money based on the recommendation of a professional, boutique dealer, who is simply trying to get what I PAID the guy for??

This is so utterly simple. I can’t even mentally take in how this has become such a debate? With all of the boutique basses, amps, cabs, etc, that I have had made for me over my musical career, this is the stupidest issue I’ve come across. As several of you have pointed out, IT COULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED IN MINUTES! Don’t you guys see, THAT’S WHAT MAKES THIS SITUATION SO RIDICULOUS. Jorg did not have the information to guide me through using the product he provided. Either that, or he just didn’t have the interest in clarifying how to utilize his recommendation. As a boutique dealer, it would have taken him, or his “engineer”, a matter of minutes to help get me on my way. Instead, I received delayed product, and no answers. That’s highly unacceptable. Highly, and I cannot believe so many of you are defending that. Shame on you. I have never been treated like that by any of the other dealers I’ve worked with, and would be shocked if I was.

Okay, sigh, now, go ahead. Ignore the facts, as many of you insist on doing, and start to accuse me of being a “crappy, ignorant customer” who clearly isn’t worthy of doing business with the sacred Schroeder cab company (please insert sense of humor).

On an unrelated note, if anyone is looking for some cabs… ;) Free series box included!!! :o

LOL, It's a simple series box. Any 12 year old could figure out how to use it.
You're behaving like a big baby! Just at least try the cabs out and see how they sound.

I took Jorg's word on testing that he tested one of the first made.
I'm sure he did test it. And I believe it was fully assembled at the time because Jorg stated his engineer designed and built it. I'm also sure he tested it with using a cable with a 2NL connector. I suspect it never dawned on him to try using a 4NL connector. Since he builds only bass cabinets, not PA cabinets, he may not even own any NL4 cables.

I would be curiouse to hear from OP if the wrong screw is the issue. Not by connecting to the amp, just by plugging the cable in and observing how far it goes and if it stops at the screw.
He already confirmed it was the cable much earlier in the thread. No, I'm not going to look for the post number.

OP really wants some reassurance that his failure to do any of the homework a purchaser should do is normal and acceptable, and is really steamed that the online lynch mob he was counting on to show up and white knight him to internet glory has failed to materialize.

That's all I'm seeing here. Entertaining but time to move on.

ETA: gotta say, OP got me to go to Schroeder's website. Looks like nice stuff.

Great. Got all that.

So, what are you going to do? Sell the two cabs? Because that will end up costing you more than just getting a power amp. Just saying.

And Jorg's talk about that series box as if it were something extraordinary doesn't come across very well to me. It's just a box with three connectors and very simple wiring

Saying "I'll get another box sent" without figuring out why the original box could not be connected to is also nonsense... how would you know the second one would be ok?

So I think the OP definitely has some responsibility, but Jorg's responses leave something to be desired too.

I raised these same points very early in the thread. My post was ignored by the TB lynch mob. Even early in the thread many were out to demonize the OP and put Jorg up on a pedestal. I think mistakes and miscommunications were done by both parties.

I agree with you about the simplicity of a series box. Who the #*@*& needs an engineer to design and build a series box??? When I made mine, I simply thought for a few minutes about what parts I needed, ordered them, and took a few minutes to assemble it. No written plans or schematics were needed.
