Never Ordering a Schroeder Cab Again

Who said that?

So, you were not pressured to buy the cab you didn't want. You took a recommendation. And the recommendation was based on a 2nd identical cab, not the 2nd cab you ordered.

Although this implies it will work with the above speaker. Are the two speakers dissimilar? I was under the impression they were. Sorry, I'm not going back through 100's of posts again to read the scattered responses. I'm off work. On R&R. This is just not the time for me to be extracting information.

Whooooa, this is the very first time you mention ONE connector doesn't work. This backs up the @Passinwind post that the wrong screw is screwing it up. Why didn't you tell us this up front? One works and not the others? Once again, the information comes in a rate of water dripping from a leaky faucet.

Buy a screw.

Sloppy work by Jorg's Engineer for sure, hopefully not the norm, perhaps health related (been there, done that myself). The box gets three thumbs down from me.

I would not call you a liar, nor dishonest, and not even purposefully withholding information. I would say you appear to be very weak on communication skills, especially with technology and that you apparently don't have the self-education you need to do what you are trying to do.

I have no pigs in this race. We need to run a poll now. From the information so far, and assuming both parties are honest, my call would be about 75% OP's fault/ 25% Jorg's fault. Jorg's fault being shipping a substandard box, OP's fault being ignorance and not being able to just look at the box and see why it's not taking the speakon (while trying to make the connection, that has to stand out like a sore thumb if paying attention).

Weak communication skills? lol... From reading my communication w/Jorg, do you notice any confusion, on Jorg's side? Quite to the contrary. The only one who seems confused in the entire scenario is ME lol. As to where the promised box was, and why he couldn't give me simple instructions as to how to hook the thing up!

So, let me get this straight, if I ask Jorg for an explanation as to why I can't simply hook up the box he included as part of the deal, I am ignorant, BUT, if JORG can't tell me how to properly hook it up, then Jorg is still a brilliant business man and cabinet maker????? Are you seeing a massive disparity, here? Because, I am. This has been the issue I've been having with guys like you, since I made this post. You want to throw in your hat, so, you skim through posts and then apply your poor reading and comprehension skills to the topic, only making matters worse. If you aren't going to read and understand, why comment at all??

You need to step back, and take the simplicity of this entire thing in. Again, for the umpteenth time, this post really isn't about the technology. Is it? It's about a lack of follow-through. If you aren't seeing that, then you aren't reading my responses.

Let me ask you a question, since you are so confident that I am ignorant regarding "technology" and a lacking in poor communication skills to boot... Here's my question; Clearly, you are a very educated man (your use of the English language and grammar excluded). You have a deep understanding of "technology." Now, I'm going to bet that, even you, a man with a deep understanding of all sorts of technologies, will probably (if you are honest) admit that there are many kinds of technologies out there that you have absolutely zero understanding of. I'm guessing there are bucket-loads of technologies and various aspects of those technologies that you wouldn't know your ass from a hole in the ground about. Correct? Of course that's true. Now, why is that true? Well, because there are bucket-loads of technologies that you simply have no real use for in your daily life. Hence, tons of stuff you have no idea about.

All that being true, let's apply that truth to this situation. Up until recently, I have chosen to utilize vintage gear. I have had no real reason to utilize many speakon cords. Just like you don't know poopie about all kinds of various technologies, I wasn't well versed in the various kinds of speakon cords out there. Just not something I had to work with. Silly or not, it's reality. Now, do I think you're ignorant or lacking self-education because you don't understand so many facets of various technologies that are out there? Nah. I would guess you simply haven't had any need to expose yourself to all of them.

Same goes for me. Even though I had a few speakons on my boxes, not really utilizing them, I couldn't have told you what different types of speakons there were out there. Does that make me "ignorant?" lol... Give me a break, dude. It only makes me ignorant in your world. Ignorance is subjective. Apparently, you are the standard for determining ignorance, and, because I have chosen to utilize vintage gear most of my musical career, I don't live up to your expectations lol. God forgive me, for not knowing how many kinds of speakon cables there are out there! Forgive my ignorance. Stupid and shallow thinking, my friend.

Now, let's keep the line of reasoning going... Stay with me. So, I'M ignorant, even though, up to this juncture I've had no real reason to utilize many speakon cords, BUT, JORG HAS!!!! He deals with those types of cords on a daily basis. HE is making recommendations FOR SALE around the products he is stamping with his "name!" For some god-forsaken reason, if I don't think of the possibility that we might be dealing with a cord problem, I'm ignorant and possess poor communication skills, if JORG doesn't know what specific cord to utilize with HIS box, doesn't know how the thing functions, and won't follow through with making sure the customer has a functioning product, then Jorg is still brilliant and only 25% culpable?

Maybe Jorg thought a 3dB loss wouldn't be significant. OK, I'm outta here.

What loss?

That loss is only there if you keep the 'master knob' in the same position and you had an 8ohm load with the same speakers. But that amp is powerful. That amp is not likely ran with the master volume at max, so it likely has enough juice in store... just turn up a bit. And you have another cab. So, most probably, no loss at all. But you can turn up the amp higher now that there's more speakers, and you also get a nice low end boost with that.

I would definitely go with the 8/15

and I would recommend a 4 ohm cabinet especially if you don't push it to hard, even though the B&Cs can handle some serious juice if necessary

11/20/17 Scott ~

I was thinking 8 ohms, in case I, at some point, wanted to add a second 15/8 cab... But, if you feel that the 4ohm design is the way to go, I trust your judgement. Let's do it!

11/20/17 Jorg ~

I would recommend a 4 ohm cabinet; and if you decide to order a 2nd unit my engineer came up with a converter box

where you can connect two 4 ohm cabinets to a 4 ohm amp; that box has been tested live for months and it works flawless

11/20/17 Scott ~

Okay. I'll follow your recommendation.

11/20/17 Jorg ~

sounds good, talk soon

12/21/17 Tracking was issued

15/8 cab delivered 12/28/17

2/12/18 Scott~

I don't think I would ever utilize the 2x10, on it's own... Always with the 15. I would need some way to run both cabs, with the 15 being a 4 ohm cabinet. Amp maxes out at 4ohms. Could you give me a ballpark price?

2/12/18 Jorg ~

my engineer designed a converter box where you can run two 4 ohm cabinets with your amp;

it's been diligently road tested and works flawless; if you are interested I offer you the 1000 watts 1210 for $750.00 shipped and include the box free of charge

2/28/18, 12/10 cab tracking sent

3/2/18, 12/10 delivered

3/11/18 Scott ~

Hi Jorg! So, I don't think I'm seeing the box, to run both cabs at the same time..?

3/13/18 Jorg ~

Hi Scott; I went to the Post office and they informed me that the box is on the way, even though it's been taking quite a bit longer than anticipated; if it doesn't arrive by tomorrow or Thursday I'll send you another one please let me know

3/25/18 Scott ~

Hi Jorg, so, just to clarify; this box will enable me to run two four ohm cabs, at a 4ohm total load? Rather than 2 ohms? Just making sure, before I blow poopie up lol

3/25/18 Jorg ~

Yes, you can connect two 4 ohm cabs with it

At some point here, the box finally arrives.

4/11/18 Scott ~

Hmmm. Seems that one of the connections on the box won't take a cable. The other side seems to work just fine. I have lots of speakon cords. That's what I'm saying, one of the plugs isn't taking the speakon cord. Two seem fine, but one is blocked. Internally?

4/11/18 Jorg ~

let me talk to my guy and see if he can send me quick another box

5/24/18 Scott

Hi Jorg! Hey, still waiting to figure out how I can get a working box? We determined that one jack will receive the cable, and the other will not.

5/24/18 Jorg

Hi Jack

sorry for the delay, my engineer was a bit overwhelmed

I should have some new ones next week

Thanks

5/31/18 Scott

Hi Jorg... any word on this box, as yet. I've been waiting for a working box, for a very long time. The cabinets are totally useless in tandem, without a working box. Perhaps the engineer wants to speak w/me directly, to make sure I'm utilizing the box I have correctly? Should simply accept a speakon cable?

5/31/18 Jorg

Hi Scott. I should receive some boxes today or tomorrow, and will send one out right away

Thanks

6/22/18 Scott ~

Hi Jorg. Seeing that I have been unable to get a functional box, I'm going to list these cabinets for sale. If you wouldn't mind, please send me a functional box for the buyer. I will pay for it, if necessary. Please.

6/22/18 Jorg

Scott

My engineer had surgery and is in the hospital. Therefore the delay. Things can happen. Thank you

I have to say that after seeing this... I've changed my mind slightly.

The OP, in my opinion, is largely to blame for the situation as the responsibility lies ultimately with him about what he chooses to buy. But Jorg here could have avoided all this pretty easily too. He gives his opinion and makes a recommendation that does make sense to me... but he doesn't seem to explain the reasons very well. The OP asks very clearly "so with that box I can connect two 4ohm cabs and get a 4ohm load?" (not same words but same clarity) and Jorg's answer is just "yes, you can connect blah blah". He does not say the final load is 4ohm, but for someone without the knowledge (and at this stage Jorg knew the OP didn't have the knowledge) I can see ow it reads as "yes" to both questions.
Jorg's communication was not great.
And Jorg's talk about that series box as if it were something extraordinary doesn't come across very well to me. It's just a box with three connectors and very simple wiring (I have one such box, not made by Jorg obviously ;) ) You have one slightly confused customer who does not know a lot about these things, and that does not help one bit. All it would take is a couple more sentences ONCE and that's it. This is not the email ping pong some people get into.
Saying "I'll get another box sent" without figuring out why the original box could not be connected to is also nonsense... how would you know the second one would be ok?

So I think the OP definitely has some responsibility, but Jorg's responses leave something to be desired too. I get a feeling that the OP with another builder would have been ok, and Jorg with another customer too... but unfortunately these two were not a good match.

Thank you for humouring us :)

OP... are you sure you want to sell those cabs? You don't want to see if they work for you? My experience with Schroeder cabs is limited but I've been often impressed. You're not in an ideal situation... like you, I'd have originally preferred two 8ohm cabs (and I would have insisted on that if that's what I wanted)... but I've also been in a situation where I had to make use of a series-wired set of cabs... and it worked very well. It's a bit of a hassle having to have the extra cables... but it worked very well (I now have a 2ohm capable head and no longer use that system). If you don't want to advertise Jorg's name due to this situation (which I can sympathise with), I'd just remove the logos (if the sound is right).

What loss?

If you're using smallish amps as many of us do then the reduction in power and clean headroom from running into an 8ohm load rather than a 4ohm load can be significant - for example my Little Mark 250 head is 250 watts into 4, but only 150 into 8. So I can turn it up higher to compensate I am then risking running out of clean headroom. Of course the OP has a 1000w head so I'm not sure why I bothered saying all that...

Likely it's cable*S*, and because a connector changeout would be a crapload cheaper than any single commercially made Speakon cable I have seen, much less possibly three . . . . That, and if a cable fails, you are looking at the same problem instead of bumming whatever 4 pole Speakon is handy and being right back up . . .

Im fairly certain the OP is nit caoable of making the change.

Yes indeed. This notion that Jorg somehow spun a wicked web of deceit to give this guy something other than what he needed I believe is just laughable.

Also to yield to the OP ignorance as his defense is neither the answer as well. This is the information age. You can find just about anything in seconds.

But I must mosey on from this trainwreck and leave it for the carcus feeders. I hope readers will understand this was a farse from the get go.

To judge Schroeder cabs based on what this guy has posted here I believe would be a travisty .

Man. I don't even know where to start? I will say, off the bat, that I'm really disappointed in many of the responses I'm seeing. To say the very least. I'm being kind, seeing that I've been criticized so harshly. I made an honest post about my experience with Jorg and Schroeder, and the general response was immediately, "liar!" Jorg responds (or even a user simply QUOTING Jorg second hand, and everyone stands up and yells, "truth!!" I must admit, I'm seriously disappointed and almost appalled at some of you guys.

I have read responses from some of you, essentially calling me an idiot (IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT JORG, HIMSELF, DIDN'T THINK ABOUT THE PARTICULAR SPEAKON CABLES BEING AND ISSUE AND DID NOT ATTEMPT TO CLARIFY THAT. Outside of a photo he sent me of a generic speakon cable laying on a table, stating, "you need one of these.") But, of course, Jorg is incapable of wrongdoing, or ignorance, so, it must be all MY fault lol. I have read response after response from a number of you, consistently arguing about whether or not the box runs the cab at 4ohm, 8ohms, or god knows how many ohms. For the fourth time, I don't give a s**t if the box runs a 4 or 8 ohms. This wasn't a technical post. This was a post addressing the fact that JORG WAS NOT A PART OF THE SOLUTION. Jorg recommended and sold a product, and didn't follow through to ensure his customer was taken care of. If, after stating this so very many damned times, some of you still want to cast aspersions on me and endlessly debate how many ohms the box will produce, I'm not sure what more to even say.

So! Since some of you are so insistent that I'm to blame, or I'm lying, or making poopie up, or whatever it is you are saying about me, AND, since Jorg is now involved, AND, seeing some of you guys seem to only want to bicker and fight, I'll take the gloves off. I'm going to post my email conversations with Jorg. At least the ones that pertain to the purchase of these particular cabinets and this "box." I will not burden you guys with back and forth deliberations between Jorg and myself, regarding speaker choices, potential used cabs (that are never actually available), and various other cabinet conversations. I am going to focus on only emails that pertain to this particular thread. Since Jorg is now involved, he can verify that my use of the email quotes are accurate.

It would be much easier for me to simply walk away from this ridiculousness, but, seeing that I'm being held up as the inept, ignorant ******* who dared to order two cabs from a boutique cab dealer who can do no wrong, I'm going to stay and fight this out.

Yeah, I gave up arguing on your behalf because people seemed to have made up their minds regardless of the information.
Wether you wanted 4 or 8 of 50 doesn't matter. The customer support was clearly weak after you paid.
It also doesn't matter wether you are an easy or difficult customer. I have dealt with both in my life and the job is to make them happy.
Clearly that didn't happen.
I am glad you have a solution and can sell them and move on.

Yeah, I gave up arguing on your behalf because people seemed to have made up their minds regardless of the information.

And at least one person who used the thread as an opportunity to insult both the OP and any who dared argue in his defence, but then there are plenty on the Internet who just see it as a way to be rude to a wider audience...

All in all a sorry episode with no-one entirely to blame and no-one entirely blameless.

This OP should have just gone down to his local GC, and gotten what he wanted. They are geared for this type of player.

The conversation between OP and Jorg is still unclear. The two stories do not line up in the essential details. FWIW, I have never known Jorg to be disingenuous.

In any case, the “problem” is hardly a problem at all. Give me a break. Two 4 ohm cabs and a series box. OK, you have to figure out the cables. Maybe, Jorg needs to send someone to play the OP’s bass for him as well. I will admit that I would not have chosen this rig. But, if I ended up with it, I would have figured it out without whining about it. I probably would have ditched the box, flipped the amp, and gotten an amp capable of driving two perfectly decent cabs. But, that’s me. I’ve made mistakes. Learn and change what doesn’t work. Move on.

We have WAY too many people taking the victim mindset to lash out at those around them. Sorry, that was second grade on the play ground. Adults figure out what’s going on, take responsibility, learn, and deal with it. OK, if OP doesn’t like the cabs, then don’t buy from Jorg again. Free country. Lots of choices.

But, seriously, 19 freaking pages over two cabs, a series box, and the right cables. That is macabre.

I'm guessing that the OP has invested close to $2K in cabs that do not do what he wants them to do. I really don't care who's in the right and who's not. I would simply want a usable solution and in my mind, it's up to the retailer to ensure that the customer gets that. Jorg may feel at this point that he has done all he can, but in the end, the customer is still sitting two cabs that he can't use in his intended way.
If you look at the OP's messages to Jorg , he's been waiting for a number of months.
That's where things have really gone off the rail.
This should have been solved months ago...

Glad you admit that the seller made a poor recommendation.

What amp currently on the market has the feature set of the Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000? Is there another comparable 2 ohm capable, specialized, crossover-based bass distortion amp available that we should know about? The dUg 1000 is a very unique amp which is custom made for people like the OP, not a generic bass amp that is easily replaceable. The two 4 ohm cabinets the seller recommended to the OP are technically a poor fit for his rig, and that is not the OP's fault.

Yes, it has been a bit of a Twilight Zone at times, and its got to the point where one side is never going to convince the other side about anything. Might be time for the mods to lock this one up, as its going nowhere fast. Perhaps, in the future, members who post negative threads about brand name gear should have to go through some sort of vetting process by the mods, maybe a requirement to be met that the other side needs to be made aware of the thread before it gets posted for equal time or some other sort of filtering, verification of accusations process, etc.
