Never though I'd say this, but...

I have read lots of positive comments about these basses. I understand they are somewhat of a legend. I would love to play one.
I like T-40s quite a bit except for the weight, and the lack of a front bevel hurt my forearm. They sound great, but don't make me regret owning my USA Fenders.
Read up on the tone controls of the T-40. It is a CRAZY circuit, but once you get used to it you can dial in a TON of tones with it. I never liked how they played but they always sounded great to me.
I heard a Mexican band with a T-40 and just loved the guy's tone. Bought one and liked it except for the ergonomics.
I wouldn't - I currently have a MIA Peavey Fury, (4) MIA Fenders, and 1 MIM Fender, and the Peavey is inferior to all 5 of my Fenders...
Sure, it's a very good bass - and certainly worth more than I paid for it - but just like the "My SX is as good as an MIA Fender" fairy tales, the "My Peavey is as good as an MIA Fender" fairy tales are just as bogus...

I don't think my two Dyna 5s are better than US Fenders, but I absolutely believe my Peavey G bass is. No doubt about it. And have you played a Cirrus?
The Fury is Peavey's bottom-tier bass, priced similarly to a Squier when new.
He probably judges all Peaveys by his Fury.
I put a Fender pickup in my Fury and it is better
than a MIA P bass in my opinion.
Hands down, it has a better neck and sounds at
least as good, if not better,

+2 I'm doodling around on my Ovation Magnum right now. Sounds nothing like my PJ bass, or my headless. All have their own thing going on.
Maybe you overrated the MIA fender. I did. I'm used to play a 2012 MIA 5 string Fender P-bass. Before we got it I was expecting too much of it, thought I was finally getting that tone in my head. It didn't happen. Sounds good, but not even close to the tone beast I was expecting. We have been biased to believe Fenders are somewhat "holygrailish", but they're just good instruments.
I played a Godin Shifter Classic recently (PJ) and even with the P pickup alone it kicked our P's b*tt real good. (IMHO, tone is subjective to the listener)

^He didn't overrate the Fender. He preferred the Peavey.

Actually, prior to only a few years ago, it wasn't hard to find a higher quality bass for a similar price than an FMIC P or J. In fact almost anything except the Rick was better lol. When I was gigging, I tried several times to get a Peavey (not a T-40, though, one of their other models whose name I've forgotten) and failed due to the general poverty that afflicts your average Austin musician with a pair of Rickenbackers.
But they were excellent instruments and superior in practically every way to even MIA Fenders at the time. I couldn't get anyone to take either of my Ricks in trade for one, though, unfortunately (smart folks!). Too bad, I Coulda Been A Contender without busted up wrists if I'd been able to afford the Peavey I was looking at lol.
Of course, that's changed recently now that FMIC is finally making really good instruments, even the foreign-made ones. But Peavey was a true sleeper quality and tone-wise; they were fantastic instruments (and probably still are). And I agree their horrible amps really sullied their reputation at the time....

While I find the Fury to be an excellent value, I don't find the fit & finish are as good as US Fenders in general, IME. Nor do I think Fender just started making decent instruments in '08. But I think it's completely unfair to base the quality of Peavey's entire product line on their entry-level instruments, and even worse to say that someone having a personal preference for them is "bogus".
I believe the high end Peaveys meet or exceed a typical MIA Fender's quality of construction...

Yeah, I know - before I bought mine, I read a bunch of posts stating that they were better or atleast equal to an MIA Fender - IME, that isn't true...
You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but IME it isn't true - I tried a Fender pup, and now have EMG's in my Fury, FWIW... I have never denied that the Fury has excellent fretwork - but the neck finish is pretty crude, as is the body finish... The hardware is cheaper than that of a Squier, as is the pickguard - overall, it just looks and feels MUCH cheaper than the 5 Fenders I currently have... Great for what I paid? - absolutely - but not even close to being in the same league as my Fenders, let alone "better"... When I see claims like those, it's just like the Squier or SX fans - typically made by people that can't or won't spend the money for a Fender, yet want to con themselves or others into believing their $150 bass is far better than it actually is... or, by people who have an axe to grind with Fender for whatever reason... To those people, I say I'm glad you like your inexpensive bass, but please quit trying to claim it's something that it is not...

Yeah, I'm sure that comes off as being a bit contradictory - but the bass in the OP - a T-40 - isn't exactly a high end Peavey, either... I've owned a couple, and although good - they were nothing spectacular - as some would have you believe, like similar claims about the Fury, Forum, Foundation, etc...
