More importantly: Soon we'll hopefully get some impressions from TB:ers! BTW, I've never been to NAMM. Is it typically a complete cacophony, or is the show disciplined enough for some meaningful testing (short of occasional sound proofed booths)?

I know only a few of these are in the wild but I'd be interested in gig reports. I used a 370 and 301 cab for years and I loved it most of the time but some rooms were rough. I'm wondering how much the high frequency driver helps out on small stages.

I just played the 360/361 and 360/361m at NAMM and they sound great. The 361 cab had a loose driver so it was rattling when I pushed it. I switched over to the 361m so they could fix it. They are super expensive, so I'm not sure if I would get one but they were really close to the original ones and those are pretty much my favorite bass amp sound. The 361m has a 15 instead of a 18 and I think it would be better for my in-ear situation. The sweet spot was a little closer to the amp. Man these things are punchy like an loud SVT but at lower volumes and with more tonal options and quicker.

Cool! Thanks for the report! I gather they only brought one each of the horn cabs, then? I was hoping they'd bring a full Jaco/JPJ setup with two 361:s ... BTW, did you try them with your own axe?

Excellent (better?) options are available with more flexability.

I don't have a roadie and my gigs range from outdoor (some with no PA support) to gigs where my Line 6 studio 10 does the job.

Do you post such things in the SVT threads too? :spit: Besides it's possible to own both a 360 and a Line 6 you know. ;)

Seriously: Of course a dual 360 setup is overkill (although there are rationales for it apart from the volume aspect), but such a rig is iconic, and I think it would have been way cool if they'd offered one to try out. Where but at NAMM would one find such excess today?

They had one of each. Someone from the booth behind them came by to tell them to turn down. You usually can't bring your own instruments in unless you are doing demos for a company. I used a p bass and a fretless jazz :bassist:. It didn't exactly sound like I remember the originals, but really close. It had more top end than I remember the original having. Too bad I could really give the full size 361 a run. It was really farting when I played, but I think they fixed it. The guy before me was playing really light. I spent the most time on the 361m which seemed like enough for most situations.

I know of one out this way, but it's in a place I can't get to, so I'm going to have to wait to find out what those are like. Every report I read from anybody who plays one says they are like an original 360, only better, which is tough for me to believe. I play through an original 360 and it is everything anybody says those were. If a new one is actually better, then I don't know what to say. I have seen one, and it sure looks the part.

Its great to see how a company See's (or hears) a sound and wants to recreate it that has been lost for so many years. Its very exciting. I look forward to catch someone playing one. But to create a wonderful cabinet that Jaco, Larry Graham, JPJ and many others had used is truly exciting to see. I wish this company enormous success.

I played through a prototype 360/361 and 360/361m a couple years ago. WAY too much top end for my tatses and a HUGE hole in the mids when the HF was turned on. I liked them better with it turned off. (Though they still lacked mids.)

My understanding, though, is that the final product uses a different compression driver and/or crossover point, making it more of a mid driver than a tweeter. Also, George now seems to be using different woofers than the ones I saw in his shop.

I should probably drive up and audition the current incarnation of these rigs.

Oh...and are there still big Frankenstein bolts sticking out of the sides of the cabs?

If you want to see at least one of the new 360/361 Acoustic amps in action, be sure to tune in on Wednesday 7-10-2013 to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno featuring the Lynrd Skynrd-ish Southern Rock Band Blackberry Smoke from Atlanta GA. which will be using at least one of their 2 New Acoustic USA 360/361amps. Dorian Heartsong with Jason Bonhams' Led Zepplin Experience Band is using 2 of them on their Nationwide tour currently with the band Heart, which has a new album out that they are promoting. I would like to see that firsthand! Mike

I talked to George one day at an outdoor concert where they were using one of the original 361's. George named a few bands who played through it and it was definite a memorable piece. He approached as I was wearing an Ampeg t-shirt and we talked tones and equipment for a long while.. He gave me some ideas of what they wanted to do and asked if I wanted to buy one then.. That was about 2005/2006 ish.. Didn't realize it would've ever taken them so long to get close to market.... George is a friend of a friend and a pretty cool guy. Great guy to talk with! Would love to a/b old vs new....
