New Aguilar Compressor pedal: "TLC Compressor"

The criticism was well earned by Aguilar if you ask me........ With the exception of these two new pedals, Aguilar hasnt produced an all original, new product in a dawgs age. They came out with an effects pedal in 5/14thths rack width format or whatever, using an existing circuit from the AG500..... then they came out with a rack preamp in footpedal format using two existing circuits.... and then the DB751..... a (presumably*) easier / cheaper to manufacture version of the DB750 which (from what i have heard) is functionally the same amplifier. Aguilar's new product development behavior seems to me to be analogous to the goofy kid in the back row in english lit who keeps turning in the same paper over and over again with a different title and binder hoping the professor wont read it........ Please bear in mind I wouldnt be compelled to comment if I wasnt hopelessly in love with all of the brand's now discontinued products ....anwhoooooo

TRANS LINEAR CONTROL is seemingly reference to a translinear circuit or more commonly a CMOS transistor.... basically an opamp transistor. This makes me inclined to think this is a VCA-Type compressor.... which in itself is worthy of some attention as most of the pedal comps out there now are optical cell comps.

If this truly is a VCA type compressor I'll be interested to hear how it sounds. Some of mid to hi-end VCA type comps Ive used in the studio can sound wonderful.... but by the very nature of the circuit.... VCA's are easier to "screw-up" and require a little more effort and know-how to make them sound right.

Also, the fact that this comp STARTS at a 2:1 ratio makes me think this will be intended to be more of an "Effect" type of compressor and less of a "transparent" type of tool.... which I dig.... compression is an integral part of my sound, and I don't really go in for the fast-attack, soft-knee type comps.

Dunno if it's just me, but I preferred the dry clips. Maybe it's because the compression wasn't "effect-y" enough to me, and he lost some of his dynamics while it wasn't quite made up for by the tone the comp was imparting.

Not a bad sound at all, and I know I'm nitpicking horribly. I just would have preferred it a bit "squishier" sounding. In that musical setting, at least. :)

That's the reason I was happy to hear it with drums. More than once I've dialed in what I thought was a good compressor setting, only to take it to practice and think "where the crap did I go in the mix?"

This sounds like the sort of compressor I like. Not too "effecty"
